That was one of the reasons, also Hitler's incompetence at war strategy. He should have gone straight to Moscow instead of taking a detour to Ukraine.

And then after his failed invasion of Russia, the Americans joined the war.

ww2 is easy enough to understand because it really was good vs evil, even if the soviets were a bit dodgy.

ww1 is baffling. for no good reason everyone just decided on this massive war where people died at insane rates nonstop for 4 years. with no clear goals other than moving a few borders 50-100km to one side or another or some such. no real heroes or villains. just everyone dying. total complete waste.

totes serious about the coats thing btw, silly adolf thought he could do the whole of russia before winter hit & calculated that giving his troops proper coats would send the wrong message (ie we might be in it for the long haul here lads) & would damage morale. no need for a proper coat private schweinsteiger, we'll be home before winter hits!

first thing the germans did after winning a firefight with the soviets was go round nicking all the super warm soviet coats off the dead bodies

Any interest in an FA Cup sweep? Thinking £5 in, each taking a home and away team so 32 runners, prizes for semis onwards, LMS from non PL/non PL or Championship, biggest round 3 defeat, other stuff to keep most entrants live. Will organise + hold money if there'll be enough interest to fill, I'm usually not super busy in the summer
