I love test cricket. I like a ****load of sports tbh. This summer:

- F1
- Wimbledon (don't care about French Open)
- US Open/Open Championship Golf
- conclusion of NHL/NBA playoffs (don't love either but the finals are often pretty cool)
- baseball season (baseball is the ****ing best)
- England/Argentina, Lions/NZ Rugby test series
- test cricket
- Tour de France

Stop moaning.

Lfc,

You've immersed yourself in the lol mls this year right. How bad is it
05-20-2017 , 11:25 AM
More than half of those events are only worth falling asleep to.

Indeed. Only egg chasing and test match BAF are worthy of discussion.

I have. It's a pretty low quality with some bright spots here and there. There's so much parity too so you really have no idea who is good and who is bad and who is worth watching. Toronto FC plays some nice stuff, and when Giovinco is fit is definitely worth watching (actually went to the match last night). Portland when fully fit, especially Valeri, are fun at home. The two expansion teams (Minnesota and Atlanta) can play some fun stuff mostly because they've showed to dgaf about defense at times so it can be end to end. Columbus Crew are another fun team with the likes of the other Huguain, Justin Meram, and Ola Kamara. But most teams have 1 or 2 players of quality, a handful of mediocre players, and 2 or 3 just awful players that don't fit in.

Positive about going to a live match is RB Arena is a really nice stadium, pitch is beautiful, fairly easy to get to, never full so can sit wherever you want, and you're in and out in 2 hours. I've been a handful of times and cant never really muster up giving a **** about it because of the awful MLS format. BWP is class though and one of the best players in the league and really stands out on his own team how much better he is in multiple facets of the game.

MLS Live is a great deal though and it will be nice to have some football on over the summer.

What do you think of the MLS as a way of developing young american prospects LFC?
05-20-2017 , 12:33 PM
Yeah I guess having it over the summer is a fair point. Maybe I'll catch a few games since nothing else will be on.

It's gonna be brutal playing in Atlanta in the middle of the summer tho.

Urgh, Millwall again next year

I'm not LFC, but, I can certainly hop in and answer this. I think MLS has a ways to go to being a place to produce real talent that is capable of playing for better clubs in the major European leagues.

There are academies tied to the clubs right now, but the league is also expanding too fast and I'd much rather have an expansion freeze happen for 5-8 years to hopefully create a situation where you have to be more talented to make it to the main squad than just be a random dude that is meh all because there will be 22-24 teams in the league.

But, money is starting to happen and the MLS has been able to get some better TV deals, so hopefully that could mean the MLS becomes a place to truly develop American talent I another 10-12 years. The MLS produces a player right now that pretty much guarantees us qualifying for the World Cup, but, nothing past that. I'll take that given how **** it was for the first decade of its existence.

do most yank soccerballers do years of college/ncaa? must be terrible for development if so

cant imagine college soccer bringing in any money so the facilities & coaching must be wank compared to college basketball/eggball

Yeah, those were my childhood summers in the 90's as well with Ulrich GOATing, Riis throwing his defect bike in the trenches IIRC, before all of that doping stuff hit really. Dad chainsmokingly watching from the garden all day as well.

Not as much as it had been, but, more than it should. Home Grown Players (academy players) don't count against the salary cap, but there's only 3 spots on the main roster for those.

some do, some don't

think the academies have been improving and thus siphoning off more of the top talent in recent years

and then a lot of them are moving to Europe before i've even heard of them

didn't think there were limits on HGPs, seems like many teams currently have 5+
