The only thing I hope for from the dictator in Chief is that he somehow is able to force the republicans to approve his infrastructure ideas as that's basically the only decent thing he's for.
This. My original post was about the tube when I said "trains" but the tube is outstanding. Simple. Maps everywhere. Very easy to figure out where you're going. You know when the next one is coming etc. Smelly and crowded like an NYC subway but that's not the trains fault.
But even beyond that Euro trains are great. In most cases you can an actual seat. Have a food cart which also sells alcohol. Can bring your own food and alcohol and enjoy a nice peaceful ride. Usually beautiful scenery out the window. Sleeper cars for the long overnight trips. So elite. I miss the trains in Europe so much.
I lived in Sweden for a summer and being able to hop on a train in my middle of nowhere town and go to any Scandanavian city was so elite. Copenhagen was 3 hours away, Gothenburg and Malmo 2.5, Stockholm 5, Uppsala not much more than that. You can't do that here without driving. Of course driving here is elite and gas cheap so why would you, but as a stranger in a strange land the trains are elite.
Worst train experience of my life, and it wasn't even that bad, was paying like the $10 more for a "private" sleeper car overnight train from Belgrade to Bucharest. The train went like 5 MPH the whole way. Had another guy in my "private" car who was pretty creepy like directly next to me. The train looked like it was from a century ago, and machine-gun armed police in army fatigues came on and interrogated the **** out of me in the middle of the night what seemed like every 20 minutes. Still a memorable experience
European trains GOAT. Especially when I was a 21 year old student with a Eurail pass and could hop on and off whenever I wanted and go wherever I wanted for one flat fee.
