to be fair, the other "defensive" options aren't much better

they could stick baids out there any it wouldn't be much worse than other options

But it isn't an advantage until it turns into a better opportunity than a free kick from 20yards. Wanyama from 20 yards with bodies 4 yards away doesn't qualify.

He had the ball with space and support just outside the penalty box, Spurs take that over a free kick 100% of the time imo

It's at worst a very close call but once he takes that shot Marriner can't pull it back for a free kick

i agree it was a bad call, but i feel like players can be coached on this stuff too. every week you see several good spots where teams can get free kicks between 18-25 yds out where it probably makes more sense to just stop playing than try to create a real opportunity from it. it could be worth like 0.05 xG each time or something.

I don't think he had the space you are suggesting. Was already being closed down when receiving the ball.

So i don't know why his form has dipped so low he should at least be better than this. Jones however has never been good under any manager and never will.
