Re: English Football 2011-2012
scholes' role while key at times wasn't as key as you're claiming it to be disturbance. No, that hasn't currently been replaced, but we also have a lot of players coming off loan and anderson was showing that he can do a good job in the semi-scholes role
and yes, you guys improved, but can you truly say for sure that you guys can really challenge for the title next season as is? I'm not completely sure of that. There are weaknesses in the defense that need to be answered (notably at both Fullbacks) and mancini using a system that really doesn't seem to get the best out of the players he has (seriously, you guys are screaming for a 4231 and keep playing a 433 with 3 CMs)
more to it, can you fully explain why as of right now united would get third with both chelsea and you guys leap frogging us? As of right now, I'm having a hard time seeing it as we will have lost scholes and VDS (which I can see GK possibly being a question mark next season) and you haven't really laid out how this is going to happen

They keep the ball really well and they look good but they don't penetrate enough (twss). Think they are going to struggle for goals against better defenders.

Yes even right now I think City could make a serious push for the title, finished level on pts with Chelsea don't forget. The spine of Hart-Kompany-De Jong-Tevez is as good as anything in the league imo, I don't think that's an exaggeration, plus any other team would take Yaya and Silva if they could.
Re: the formation, it has been a 4231 more often than not as Yaya has been playing ahead of Barry and De Jong with little defensive responsibility.
I only rank Chelsea slightly ahead as they aren't likely to lose any of the current squad which right now makes it a bit stronger than United, although it's marginal. As has been mentioned Rio is more and more injury prone now plus Giggs is finished imo. Chelsea need to get a manager sorted though, if it's Hughes then I'll put United ahead
that's enough brash talk for now anyway, I realise I'm potentially hanging myself out to dry here for later in the season

Not too sure, would definitely take Yaya. Valencia > Silva imo

Re: English Football 2011-2012
Last years team was arguably the worst United team in years and we still won the title, we have experience of playing CL football and competing for the title, city don't.
There where a cpl reason we didn't improve in points gained, the rooney saga being the major one and Berba not being much use away from home another.
Next season Chico/Rooney will be the first choice partnership and if rooney can continue on his form from the last cpl months of the season we'll be very hard to stop.
Almost all of our work in the transfer market is done, De gea is signed, it's just not official because of the situation with him changing agents. Jones is done, A young will prob be finalised in the next week or two, the only signing we need is a long term scholes replacement, so Modric or Sneijder.
Even if Tevez stays you'll have to deal with his inevitable complaining about Manchester/Mancini and being linked with moves to Inter or Madrid. If he splits then GL winning the league with Dzeko.

way to proclaim that "fact" with no basis whatsoever. i even said that was in my opinion, but of course that doesn't matter as he plays for united so therefore is awful amirite? he was good enough to get shortlisted for pfa poty, and almost nobody would say the winner (bale) is the best.
Only one team in the top 4 improved on their performance in points gained this season and it wasn't them so it's legitimate to say they declined despite winning the title and will need to find momentum again to stay at the top.
iirc none of the top 4 from the previous season improved their points total. additionally, its ridiculously shortsighted to act as though past performance will accurately predict future performance, especially in the way you are trying to. with no major changes (yet) that would most strongly suggest they will do the same as last year. are we to reason that any team gaining 5 more points in a season will therefore gain 5 every season? can't wait for the first 200 pt team!
You seem to be ready to proclaim them champions right now but they're losing experienced players and none of the new ones are finalised yet.
i won't proclaim them champions, but its perfectly reasonable to give them the highest chance of winning, even if that is only 40% or something around there.
As I said earlier they need to do a fair bit of work in the market so let's see.
why exactly? i think a team that got 3rd would probably have more work to do than a team that got 1st, even if they lost a GK and an experienced legend who at this point is a squad player.

Re: English Football 2011-2012
I like City's chances next year if Hart can become an elite GK and if Dzeko can get acclimated to the English game. Kompany + De Jong were insane good last year and that will probably continue for a few years to come. It's probably between them and United. I think they'll see a pretty noticeable difference between VDS and anyone else and it will be a pretty big factor, regardless of how good they think De Gea actually is. I have a sneaky suspicion that next year is the year where age catches up to Chelsea and we might see a big decline in JT, Fat Frank, Drogs, Malouda, Essien, etc. I do think that Torres will beast next year though. And as for Arsenal, well lol, we could be the only team in the top 6 with significant losses. We've been unusually quiet with transfer rumors and our biggest battles are keeping our own players, fml x 100000.

Re: English Football 2011-2012
It'll be between United and Citeh unless Arsenal and Chelsea make some good moves this summer, then I think they all could have a shot at it. Then Pool and Spurs 5th and 6th again, with 7 to like 13 pretty similar quality wise, just depends on who puts together good runs

Well done for taking my opinion about points improvement completely literally. What other barometer would you suggest using for judging if a team has improved on it's previous season? City gained more points, everyone else finished with less. Regardless of that the evidence was there on the pitch that United, while they fought hard were not as dominant as they have been and hence have declined. And even their fans will admit they ran good with the ref in a few games.

Re: English Football 2011-2012
We went on our worst run in the league for 15 years last season and still had a chance to win the title with a couple of games to go.
I think it's fair to say we won't go on such a run again this season.
