BBC reporting Chelsea set to appoint Di Matteo permanently, he deserves the job after the CL win I suppose, but I dont really think he is the right choice for them

I'm disappointed with that, purely bc of the option to end the contract after 12 months means that no matter how he does next season he's out for pep if he'll come to us.

Not good for the long term of the club and not a good way to treat a Chelsea legend imo

Ffs I'm dying for a period of bloody stability at Chelsea but that's just a temp appointment until peps ready, if rdm does well next year, and I see 1st or 2nd in the league plus a decent performance in Europe or the FA cup as a good season, given the standard around us and the squad refresh phase were in, and his contract isn't renewed.....well I don't know what I'll do, probs nothing because the clubs been a joke since they sacked Carlo and I've yet to lose faith.

I've just been disappointed with the instability and manager merry go round and I don't think this appointment stops that.

Re: English Football 2011-2012

I'll be happy with third next year. RDM is yet to accept the offer anyway. But he clearly deserves a chance for next year even if I have doubts. But I think Raz mentioned in another thread, that these guys need to be given a chance at the top level or they will get stuck in the lower tier of the managerial merry go round.

I agree the 12 month termination clause seems cold, but I'd rather that then offer him a 4 year deal and in the event (likely) he gets the boot in February, we pay off yet another huge contract. We can't afford to keep doing this.

It just reeks of something along the lines of;

"We will give you a go this year since you won the CL and all but if Pep is able to work next summer then we will have to let you go but thanks for all your help"

Pep is going to Man United when Fergie retires next year.

Still think Pep ends back at Barca.

What about at Spain? Don't see that mentioned much but really the best combination of pedigree and rest for someone who needed to get out of the fishbowl.

Not that there isn't pressure with Spain but it isn't 24/7/365 like Barca.

Pep for Spain would be potentially GOAT, but could also be divisive. The first time he picks a Barca player over a RM player **** will explode.

I just can't picture him at Spain at this age, maybe further down the line but he strikes me as the guy who loves the day to day aspect of club football. I know he got burnt out so to speak at Barca but I'd be very surprised if his next job isn't a club job.

The opposite of this seems true though? And you point it out yourself. He basically said he needed a break from managing because its so demanding, int'l football would be a perfect compromise imo. But nonetheless, I can't see him managing Spain, at least not right now, and I definitely can't see him managing any other country.
