If Cavendish wins the flat stage I think he has a good chance to win the points jersey. Today seems to be made for a breakaway win, tomorrow is not a mountain finish so there's a good chance that a breakaway stays in front. And it's doubtful that Rodriguez would win both of the mountain finishes. Cavendish with a win has a 51 point lead while a stage win is only worth 25.

Forgot to mention that Rodriguez doesn't seem all that interested in the points classification. He didn't sprint for the win vs Rabottini, he was happy to get 2nd and make up as much time as possible.

Good calls! Rodriguez didn't even want to get 11th place points today (though a Sky rider did a mini-break to make sure Rodriguez didn't get those 5 points). I don't even think Rodriguez finished in the top 15 (only the top 15 get points).

So much for the theory that Rodriguez doesn't care about stage wins. 1 point gap now.

Good stage today, I'm hopeful that the 2 mountain finishes will be great with various attacks.

Yeah he really wanted that win today, it's a different situation when he comes in with the other favourites than when he comes in with the last man standing of a breakaway. Only 1 point behind he has to be favourite to win it, even if Cavendish wins tomorrow.

why did they do away with the time bonuses? made the finishes much more exciting imo.

They still have time bonifications, but not in the big mountain stages.

Completely irrelevant to pro racing, but I find it funny that the "Arizona" track cycling team meets weekly in . . . San Diego, CA (354 miles away from Phoenix). Turns out there isn't a velodrome in the entire state, so they have to meet all the way out there. You'd have to be a pretty dedicated track cyclist to drive 700 miles a week just to get to training.

Re: Cycling 2012 Thread | Giro d'Italia - Tour de France - Vuelta a Espana

They should just build a velodrome, in the long run not making that trip every week will save them enough money to make up for the cost

Once their hockey team gets moved back to Canada they could use the ice rink.

Gutted i didnt get to watch todays stage, was flying all day Managed to find the last 15km in italian, i guess that will do! Shame Rigo lost time in the foul weather sunday or he could be right up there for a podium spot. Final TT is going to be seriously tight unless someone gets a lot of time on passo Stelvio.
