And shoes! What's with those? And those drag-reducing singlets. Total bull****.

Should be running on dirt instead of whatever rubber composite surface tracks are made out of too

He can have spikes too if he wants that are within the official specifications. Can all the other runners wear giant springy shoes that are like his legs? Can they even wear 1/3 size replica springy things?

I'm saddened by the number of people who don't seem to get this at all.

he'd be the only one allowed to strap on something longer than 9mm

Wondering what his times are in other distances. If his start is so bad but he can still put up :45 400s then I would think his 800 and 1500 times could be even stronger with his super awesome springy advantage.

I don't think he runs the longer distances. I think stability is a major issue, you can run a 400 because it's long enough to overcome the poor start, but you don't leave your lanes and have to jostle with other runners as in anything longer. I was curious if he ever had run a 800 and found this website which listed a 1:40.18 time, but that has to be bull**** because it would have broken the world record by almost a full second and no one else is talking about it.

Because it's not running. Runners have calves, knees, and feet. He's not participating in the physical action of running.

re: The Curious Case of Oscar Pistorius: Olympic-bound without any legs

the jostling in the 800m wouldn't matter because he'd start way behind the field, he'd be running on his own for awhile but would zoom past everyone in lane 4 on the back stretch with 300m to go. he doesn't race the 800m because his advantage would be absurdly obvious. if he get's the 100% okay to run the 400m because people don't care as much if he's going to lose, he then has precedent to get himself into the 800m where "cripple sets world record to win gold" gets him superpaid

re: The Curious Case of Oscar Pistorius: Olympic-bound without any legs

South African athlete Oscar Pistorius, has just created a sensation by smashing the world record in the 800m, which was previously held by the Dane Wilson Kipketer (1'41''11 in Cologne August 24, 1997). It was during the meeting in Pretoria (AFS) on May 18 that Oscar Pistorius has improved that mark by nearly a second to bring it to 1'40''18.

You may have not noticed while in the course of a race (because who's thinking during an 800?), but you're placing alot of pressure on your achilles/calves. Those don't fire as efficiently in the latter portions of the race.

It's not even just the racing, he has a training advantage too.

In all fairness, you're right. They should be running barefoot
