Wow, Surrey just made 386-3 against Glamorgan in the 40 over tournament, whatever it's called this year.

It's yet another limited overs world record for them, the highest ever score in a 40 over game
And it was reduced to 38 overs because they started late after a spot of rain.
An extra two overs and they would have got over 400.

Hamilton-Brown 115 off 69 deliveries
Davies 88 off 63
Rmaprakash 85* off 46
Spriegel 52 off 38

Tricky chase for Glamorgan though
They need 387 to win, off 38 overs, at 10.18 /over.

Wow we actually have a chance of winning the match in Sri Lanka. It would be amazing because we have the fast bowling arsenal of a high school side.

talk about a body blow for india. sehwag going is obviously massive for the complexion of the match.

england bowling well, not quite getting their rewards

India are supposed to be the best Test team in the world; if they are to justify that claim they really have to get over this hang up they have at the moment about relying on Sehwag all the time. So many Indian fans seem to get fixated on one player, and at the moment it's Sehwag because he's scoring freely.

Sure Dravid is starting to look a bit patchy now (and in fact he's just got out cheaply again), but India still have Tendulkar, Raina, Laxman and Dhoni to come. But if they are just a one man team then they shouldn't be ranked where they are.

England looking good for another big win though. Pakistan 22-3 and are showing no ambition whatsoever at the moment. England are already priced at 1.24 on Betfair to win the match and we're not even at lunch on the first day.

We should still win this comfortably unless we collapse. If sehwag was around we could've won before the 2nd session tomorrow that's the main difference he makes. That said we are 3 down now so we'll see.

A Sri Lankan 5th day attack without Murali should not be a huge threat though.

yes sehwag just completely takes the pressure of the batsmen at the other end and takes the game away from the opposition so quickly. its going to be a struggle now for you, masterclass by sachin needed.

lol pakistan lost 2 wickets since iv been writing this post, gotta love the pakistanis, 4 down akmal giving lbw whilst hit outside the line and you don't even refer the decision with 2 referalls left

Pak 36-6. It's like shooting fish in a barrel. Not even a contest really

Although why Umar Akmal didn't refer when he was given out LBW is beyond me. I thought it was pretty plainly outside the line when I saw it live. And even if it wasn't, he was the only batsman who had a vague idea, and probably should have referred it on the off chance of a no-ball or something.

lol I know this is a touchy subject but India Pakistan combined would make an amazing side. None of our bowlers would make the playing eleven and not a single one of thier batsmen would make the side. It's amazing how we're neighbours yet we excel in 2 totally different areas of the same sport and suck royally at the other.

Apart from all the Pakistani members of the board would probably suspend the best of the Indian batsmen

Forget all the terrorists they sent to Bombay, they suspend Sachin Tendulkar and we got a nuclear war on our hands ..

It'll be way better than any promo our army has ever run on tv, "They suspended Sachin Tendulkar".

Btw how many dedicated cricket channels you guys have?

We get 7 sports channels on tv out of which 3 are dedicated cricket channels. It's insane how obssesed the country is with a single game.

Really? I mean, sure it would be a bit better than either one of the teams, but claiming it would be "amazing" is probably a little bit OTT.

Also, in a combined XI from the 22 on display in the current matches, I wouldn't just combine the Indian batting with the Pakistani bowling. I would pick Salman Butt ahead of Murali Vijay, Umar Akmal ahead of Rahul Dravid and Ishant Sharma ahead of Umar Gul. Obviously Dhoni gets the gloves.

0. There's usually a match on every day at this time of year but it's just on any of the soprts channels. We don't even have a channel dedicated to football though.

Would rather they changed the tv replay system to a collaborative effort between the on-field umpires and the 3rd umpire, rather than allowing the players to challenge the umpire's decision.

Graeme Swann turning it round corners today, two beautiful deliveries to bowl both Imran Farhat and Azhar Ali. Absolutely unplayable.

Innings victory on the cards, considering Pakistan's top runscorer of the series (Umar Gul ) might not bat again.

meh id say its tough to gauge, there is no clear best team at current.
Just got in today, seemed like it was a pretty remarkable day all in all. broad finally gets charged by the icc, its rediculous how he's managed to get away with it so far. swann apparently bowled 67 dot balls in a row, and 17 maidens out of 24 in a spell. and finally pakistan have put up a good effort

also an aside iv been to a number of days at the cheltenham cricket festival these last two weeks but couldn't go today and missed an absolute cracker. Old JOhn lewis hit 20 of the last over to chase down 300 in 40 overs for the might glos

Broad charged

About time this happened, let's hope they actually ban him; he really is a total dick, and a ban will focus his mind much more sharply fining him his match fee. Fines are useless when it's a guy who already earns a comfortable 6-figure sum a year. As useful as he is with the ball, he acts like a complete bell-end far too often when things don't go his way, and then he resembles nothing more than a spoilt five-year-old kid.

Even though a ban would mean his absence from the Oval Test, which I shall be attending, I still think it's best to actually ban him. A suspended sentence, which the match referees hand out far too often, isn't really enough either; he actually has to miss a game to realise that his behaviour falls far below the standard expected far too often. We don't want cricket to become like football, thanks — I've already been turned off watching football by boredom and the lack of respect for others exhibited by the so-called star players, and I don't want to end up feeling the same way about cricket.

Bowl 'em out, Pakistan!

The summer's cricket has been almost totally without interest. Need something to happen.

Football just dominates over here, several teams have their own channel, Cricket is much smaller and probably 3rd-5th in popularity, although thanks to sky, there is a lot of decent coverage.

Horse Racing/ Rugby/ Motorsport being more popular

Well said.

I too might be at the Oval

I'm also surprised at how good of a commentator/ pundit Shane Warne is, most of the sky team is good, Ian Botham running on reputation however.

I'd say cricket is a pretty firm 2nd. It's very rare for England not to sell out. Rugby Union Internationals get big crowds but both codes are somewhat limited to just 1/2 the country.

Yeah, totally agree about Broad. He acts like such a spoilt brat he should have gotten a one match ban. He also keep appealing without looking at the umpire, despite being told not to do it on more than one occasion. Saying that, I don't like the ICC trying to clamp down on sledging etc so don't want bans dished out lightly for guys getting a bit frisky. It's just that Broad is plain annoying and it doesn't even make for good TV. If he was just giving verbals to a batsman who was giving it back then I'd support him.

I'd put it at #2 also but all sports are so far behind football it's insane. Can you imagine England winning the footbal world cup after seeing the reaction to the rugby wc win and the 2005 ashes?
