However since the issue here is that he believes his opponents are bending the rules, and he has evidence to support that claim, so he has every right to speak up. Him being a hardass on the field shouldn't take anything away from that. It's 2 separate issues.
It's not two separate issues. What he does around pressuring the umpire etc, and taking advantage of the fact that as an Indian icon he can get away with more than most people (imagine the Bangladesh captain acting as he does), is arguably against the laws of the game (unfair fair play or whatever it's called). What Smith did is arguably against the same law. Kholi does it to pressure the umpire in the hope that his team benefit.

Frankly, in terms of what is good for the game you have Smith looking to the dressing room on one hand and Kholi acting like a spoilt brat and being in the umpire's face as often as he can on the other. Many non Indian cricket fans would say that Kholi's constant "bending" of the rules is worse.

The idea of reviews is that blatantly wrong decisions can be corrected ,if the players on the field need help to decide if it was a wrong decision then that is an admission that it wasn't blatantly wrong

I don't think that's necessarily so. I agree that between the bowler and the wk a fielding team should have a decent grasp of most lbw appeals - though with some regularity they don't, but it's can definitely be hard for the batting side.

Apparently Ashton Agar is in the side. Seems like a disaster. Also a legspin bowler named Mitchell Swepson who doesn't even have a cricinfo profile pic.

The latter isn't a bad choice but the former is. The selectors are purely selecting on form and potential on non-Indian pitches. It is a disaster.

Re: Cricket: Random Discussion Thread

Obv he's an awesome player these days. It was a flat track, but (with luck admittedly) he scored a tonne in the first match when the entire Indian batting line up couldn't score more in either innings.

People will look at his odd technique, but he keeps scoring runs. Part of what sets him apart imo is his mental strength - he can just bat all day without even looking tired or breaking away from his game plan.

Great effort from Aus today but the lack of excitement post lunch really has been a huge letdown

Poised nicely for the final test now though

Both smith and kohl have got out leaving the ball I think in the series.

Going effort by Oz to be fair. When Smith fell you'd have to fancy India there.

Re: Cricket: Random Discussion Thread

Never doubted S. Marsh for a second!

Also, now a true test of how much of a d*ck Kohli really is.

Quote:
16.1.6 Last Hour
Law 16.6, 16.7 and 16.8 will apply except that a minimum of 15
overs shall be bowled in the last hour and all calculations with
regard to suspensions of play or the start of a new innings shall be
based on 1 over for each full 4 minutes (refer clause 16.1.9 below).
On the final day, if both captains (the batsmen at the wicket may
act for their captain) accept that there is no prospect of either side
achieving a victory, they may agree to finish the match after (a) the
time for the commencement of the last hour has been reached OR (b)
there are a minimum of 15 overs to be bowled, whichever is the later

zzzz... Kohli must be playing out the last hour because he didn't get to spend any time in the middle with the bat...

Re: Cricket: Random Discussion Thread

To be fair, that says "may" so it doesn't imply that you should only play on if you think there is a chance of a result. That's how it normally works though, but it's tough to call that unsporting by Kholi. (And believe me, I think he's a huge dick so I'm not one for giving him the benefit of the doubt.)

Re: Cricket: Random Discussion Thread

But really, this makes me feel worse about England losing 4-0.

Going back to Oz, if Starc, Hazlewood and Cummins stay fit then could have some serious firepower (not to mention big Billy Stanlake if he develops). Such a contrast from the 50 over team that played in SA. The worst Oz bowling attack I've ever seen probably.
