Clearly, a lot of people do. The ratings for this format prove that. Some of the greatest games I can remember are ODIs: the Aus-SA 434 game, The desert storm, 200* game, Ind-Pak 2003 game, the tie game between Eng-India this world cup, Aus-SA world cup tie, Gilly's WC final blitz against SL etc...
The problem with one day cricket for me is the standard is so much lower than in test cricket. The super highway pitches take a lot of the skill out of batting and bowling and what you end up with are teams full of crap all rounders (like James Hopes) who are ok bats, ok bowlers and field ok but make the matches incredibly boring.

I think the biggest thing though is that one day matches lack the psychological and pressure contests that test cricket seems to come up with, and thats what makes for the best viewing imo.

Also my man Usman Khawaja made a 100 in the tour match the other day making test selection a formality. He'll probably bat at 6 but he should be at 3 and Ponting at 4 imo. Anyway he will be the man to win us back the ashes next time round.

Would taking away the limit on overs a bowler is permitted to bowl help this? Or is limited overs cricket supposed to be a display of all-rounders?

Wtf r u guys talking about? All the legends played odi format since it was introduced. From Viv to imran to botham to wasim to sachin, lara, waughs, ponting, warne, ambrose, mcgrath, styen..even dravid did. I can't think of a single legendary test player who didn't play odi's

The tests on the other hand I was watching even while I was on holiday in Finland. Test cricket owns.
This basically...

So hard to care when there is another game later on in such a short period.

Just for the record I am a driveway cricket legend in our house. The fact we play driveway cricket almost every day when we get a chance makes it to such a point we couldn't care less if Ash belts a 50* today, because tomorrow I will make a duck, my housemate will win, and we wont give a ****...

If there were 6 ODI's a year we would care a lot more, but there isnt so we dont...

Each side bats for a single over and the team who scores the most runs in the over wins. If you lose 2 wickets in the over then that's the end of your over.

It's used to decide ties in games that can't end in ties (like these semi-finals).

This is an awesome over by Thomas. The slower ball bouncer 2nd ball was brilliant.

While I think the delivery was awesome I have seen it called a wide ball a lot in recent ODI's and Twenty20s too...

It was marginal but it definitely wasn't outside the guide line.

Also mascot derby is the highlight of the domestic cricket season imo.

Thats true but those guys are going to be guns no matter what format they play. You see a load of so called one day cricket legends that cant cut the mustard at test level. Michael Bevan, who would be in most people top 10 ODI players ever, is probably the best example(could not handle good aggro bowling so stuck to ODI's). Its definitely much harder to make it as a test batsman than ODI and I like watching cricket matches where the batsman actually have to earn some of their runs rather than being gifted dream pitches and lightning outfields.

This will test people's knowledge of the game's all time greats

http://www.sporcle.com/games/Poos/cricinfo_alltime

no cheating now

I got 72 - turns out I know almost nothing about NZ cricket

Here's who I missed

Spoiler:
Australia - O'Reilly

England - none missed here obv

India - Hazare, Prasanna (bit gutted about Prasanna, I tried all the other great spinners and forgot him )

New Zealand - Dempster, Donnelly, Reid, Cowie

Pakistan - Rashid Latif, Fazal Mahmood

South Africa - Faulkner, Waite, Tayfield (a bit annoyed to miss Tayfield )

Sri Lanka - Ratnayeke, de Mel (getting Somachandra de Silva was a fluke here because I put in 'de Silva' for Aravinda and got both of them . I mean, I recognise the name, but wouldn't have thought of him)

West Indies - Hunte , Hendricks

I got in the 50's. Cant remember exactly, but I got

Spoiler:
O'Reilly, Latif, Tayfield and a few others on you list

Forgot Pieterson, and like yourself was lucky to get both De Silva's. Other lol bad misses included Dhoni, Hunte, Kallis (lol) and a few others that I should have known.

A few others, but I really suck at these kind of things...
