Sehwag averages less than 30 in England and even less in NZ the other country in the world with comparable conditions to England.

This isn't even taken into account how underprepared he is to play top class international cricket at the moment.

ok you've convinced me that there's a credible argument for Dravid. I'd still have Trott.

Obviously you'd take Dravid if they were both 25. Dravid's peak was pretty sick too (although pretty short compared to Tendulkar). I'd still take Trott today, he's the better test batsmen.

Age doesn't really matter. We're talking about picking a team for the 4th test, not about picking a team for the future.

If both teams were full strength, Tendulkar, Dravid, Sehwag, and Zaheer would make it. Laxman vs Morgan would be close. Gambhir vs Cook would be close at any other time except Cook is in god mode now.

Pretty sure India are going to avoid the innings and 300 run defeat.

Hypothetically I think even out of form Sehwag would offer more to England than Strauss. Englands top order at the moment is military medium, they get the job done but its at a snails pace. You put Sehwag in the top 3 and you've got a guy who can win a test in a session. Its easilly worth the risk given you've got Cooke and Strauss for cover if he gets dismissed early + a tale that goes to 8 or 9.

surely you should have realised after the Ashes, and Indians should realise after this series......bowlers win tests, not batsmen

Dravid and Laxman arent getting enough love in this thread either. Definitely in the top handful of test batsman in the last 20 years imo & dravid was actually really good in the slips back in the day.

VVS is pretty horrible at everything other than batting though. I remember watching him and Gangully running between wickets at a boxing day test - it was some pretty funny stuff - they both seemed to make runs though.

That obviously depends a lot on where your playing. Last I checked the bowlers dont go so well in the sub continent or in Australia for that matter (and dont go bringing up the last ashes cause we cant bat or bowl atm )

I just think specifically for England your risk v. reward makes playing Sehwag a better option even out of form. I'm not even saying Strauss is bad, but you have a lot guys like him and not many out and out match winners. Sehwag in for Strauss would balance your batting order perfectly.

I guess other way you could look at it is that if Australia were playing the next test in England I think Strauss would be a much better fit for the reason that our batting consists of Shane Watson so we really need to keep wickets in hand and not risk a collapse (but im getting carried away here)

hmm, to be fair I don't think that many of our bowlers have actually played much in the sub continent, not even Jimmy Anderson. He's missed most of those tours, and the rest were mostly not even in the team. Will be interesting when we do tour though.

lol this England series has been so tilting..

All throughtout the WC I tried to get a Tata Sky HD box and they said it wasn't availible in my city, then this series starts and my local operator says he has it now, I get it installed and bam we have our worst performance since I started following cricket in 96. I've seen like 5 days of cricket this series because it's too painful to watch (the picture is crystal clear though)..

Clearly time to take a hammer to it imo..
