What an awful selection. Bopara is trash. Averaging like 35 this year in FC cricket. He has also epically failed in many opportunities for England.

I don't have any confidence in Bopara, he's not good enough bowler to be an allrounder but not good enough with the bat to be a batsman

I actually think Bopara is a worse test batsmen than both Bresnan and Broad

I should also say that since this selection is for a one-off test, I would pick Mark Ramprakash, if for nothing more than the lulz.

Give him a send off like Sri Lanka did Jayasuriya?

Warner scores 50 from 31 balls, he opens the batting and faces 31 of possible 90 deliveries.

I'm so annoyed James Taylor didn't get the call up for England. We rarely seem to give the young players a go. If Tendulkar was English he probably wouldn't have made his Test debut until he was in his mid-twenties.

Would remind me too much of how we wasted one of the greatest talents in the game. It still makes me sad.

If Bell had played back then they would have done the same to him.

I agree about Taylor but not for that reason (I just don't like Bopara and would rather anyone than him). England are trying to beat the no.1 ranked team in the world at home, surely you pick your best team. Bopara is not in that best team for me but the selectors obv think he is. It's not like players can only improve when playing for England. Strauss was 27 when he first played I think and slotted in straight away.

Its also worrying for a team that aspires to be No 1 if our 7th best batsmen is Bopara

Why did Ramprakash not succeed at Test level? One of the most talented batsmen of all time.

Really, England bat so deep it seems like a no brainer to prepare lively pitches and pick 5 bowlers, at least some of the time (with a logical time being when one of your frontline batsmen is injured).

England have had no problems taking 20 wickets with 4 bowlers the last few years. They should just prepare live wickets and play 4 bowlers to profit.

because he needed to be nurtured not undermined.

His selection should have been a no brainer and he should have known it instead of constantly being dropped and/or worried he was about to be dropped.

The selectors probably don't want to go with an uncapped batsmen in a key series. But in that case they should pick Marcus Trescothick who is probably the best county player not in the England 11.
