Mind boggler that this is Sangakkara's last season. Guy is on an absurd run of form. Why can't he play on for another 1 or 2 seasons? What an absolute legend.

He easily could but he's got nothing to prove pummeling county attacks for another two years. I'm actually surprised he continued to play domestically after retiring from internationals.

+1 .. playing just great .. have watched him 3x live, and hes in super touch .. also, a very nice guy ..

Hes in the final, at Lords on Sat, in the Surrey side, to play Notts.

Even game .. Roy / Sangakkara/ Dernbach / Batty/ Rampaul for Surrey

Notts : Hales / Lumb / Patel / Broad / Woods.. thou, some injury worries, with last 2.

I hope we don't lose in the final 3rd year in a row, that would be a downer.

I forgot about that match - the weather forecast looks good right now for Sat. Should be a good game.

+1 to the Sangakara comments, what a player he turned out to be.

Q. Alex Hales is currently on 151*, breaking the previous record high score of 146 for a domestic final at Lords. Who held that record?

I guessed it correctly when they asked that on TV. They did give a hint though

Graeme Smith? Seems like another example of why having SA colour commentators is a bad idea.

tbh, Ed Smith-Vic Marks is wildly the best combination: almost all the others are entirely insufferable. (Tuffers and Boycs are fine in limited amounts as caricatures of themselves, and small amounts of Simon Mann & maaaayyybbbeeeee Dagnell are ok - tho' Daggers has prime proto-Agnew potential .. that's a bug not a feature).

I mean .. a (professional) clown (intentionally) [which over decades I get bored of, but w/e] .. but decent as a commentator setting that aside .. ... but for the fact that for >=30 years he hasn't been able to follow the action as it occurs ... so plenty of his commentary is catching up with events on the field via replays and/or hints from the colour commentators.

So ... much better than Johnstone and CMJ (as he has decent instincts as to what is going on), but pretty meh, if looked at coldly, as a commentator per se.

But, if that sounds a bit harsh, gg to him for riding the wave for ~45 years

Who would win? ;

A team consisting of the best pro players but they can only use baseball bats, instead of cricket bats.

or

A team consisting of 11 random guys who have never played on at least a semi pro level but nevertheless enjoy cricket (are allowed normal cricket bats)

Pros will occasionally train with bats 1/2 the size in width to their normal bats they use in games. It exaggerates the need to watch the ball onto the bat. They absolutely smash the leather off the ball still with these much smaller bats.

So in answer to your question it's not close, the pros win.

It would be closer if you was to put say the top players in world with baseball bats vs the best non pro (no county) cricket players with cricket bats.

to answer falconhoof's question: the best pro players piss it. low level county pros who have actually made it that far piss it too against the best non-pros. the jumps in skill level are just depressing [aka inspiring].
