If Conor was a legit good boxer, he'd be a boxer already. He wouldn't have even touched MMA.

Re: Conor McGregor vs. Floyd Mayweather (August 26th)

Will Conor come into this fight with a classical boxing stance throwing classical boxing punches. However miniscule his chances are I feel if he does that they are officially 0. He will likely leave himself open to shots but imo he needs to have some kinda hybrid mma/boxing stance where he can throw from angles that Floyd isnt used to and maybe get lucky.

Why? He has probably made more $ in MMA than every boxer out there his age besides Canelo.

I agree he can't box, but going into MMA over boxing isn't really indicative of that since he has become 1 of the best MMA fighters in the world. And by far the most profitable.

I hate this argument.

Do you know why boxers move the way they move? Because 125 years of the sport has taught us that that's the best way to move in boxing.

If a karate/muay thai stance was better, world class fighters would already be using it.

So Conor fights in MMA his whole life and earns at most $10M in one fight, comes to boxing and is projected to earn as much as $100M in one fight and you don't think there's a dependency in pay at the top of each sport??

Re: Conor McGregor vs. Floyd Mayweather (August 26th)

To say he's earned at most 10M in one fight doesn't really mean much, his market value is obviously higher than that right now.

Being by far #1 MMA draw >>>> being any boxer besides Floyd/Pacquaio is my point.

If he went into boxing and was another Danny Garcia, it would still make more sense to go into MMA instead.

Hey RT if he wins it will undermine everything you've ever thought about boxing. I kno you're a huge boxing guy so let's assume CM wins. Does that ruin the sport for you completely? Where do you stand. I only ask because your opinion is respected

Re: Conor McGregor vs. Floyd Mayweather (August 26th)

Obviously if CM were to win, that would be a huge black eye for boxing.

MMA would have the upper hand in popularity going forward and the two sports would be changed forever.

But he isn't going to win unless it is rigged so all this hypothetical stuff is just jibber jabber.

Very long and Floyd was apparently out of shape but it's what you asked for in your post.

Cotto's dumb ass even backs up and lets him casually walk out to the side.

If anyone wants to beat Floyd, it isn't going to be by out boxing him or looking pretty. You NEED, to focus on containing him in the corner, throwing short shots mostly to the body and hopefully eventually hurting him. You're simply not going to win a points battle.

Also it should be noted that the shoulder roll isn't as effective against a straight left hand from a southpaw as it is against the straight right hand from the orthodox fighter, at close range.

Conor, had he trained in boxing his entire life, would be the #1 or #2 draw in boxing in the post-Floyd/Manny world. I have zero hesitation saying that ceteris paribus, Conor makes many times more in boxing what he's made in MMA.

Not sure I agree with the bolded, but yeah, Conor winning is catastrophic for the sport of boxing in general. To watch the (imo) 2nd greatest boxer of the last 15 years get tooled by what is effectively an amateur to the sport says horrible things about the sport in general.

That said, it's not the "end" of boxing, either for my interest of the sport itself. Fighting, in all its forms, will be around until it's made illegal. It's just too damn fun.

If CM does win somehow that isn't bizarre (i.e .Floyd tears his ACL throwing his first punch and then breaks both arms), it definitely will change the way the sport is trained, from amateurs like me to the pros of tomorrow. Or, to put it another way, dey'll start to move like like 'e moves.

I agree in the long term but in a once off fight where a guy has no chance at all of outboxing someone using traditional stance/punches then what is the downside of trying something different.

Ive read over and over how the best boxers in the world have tried and failed to connect with Floyd using their traditional boxing methods so conor has no chance. Why would a guy with no pro fights have any chance of a different outcome. Conor has to try something different.

lmaoooo sports betting donks

http://www.espn.com/chalk/story/_/id...oyd-mayweather

"At Caesars Palace sportsbooks, 140 of the first 144 bets were on McGregor, who was paying back around 5-1. Almost all of the early action was small and placed by recreational bettors. One sportsbook manager described it as "square-a-palooza."

Once press conferences start, conor mind fuarks floyd & they square off & people realize conor the same size as triple G people will be giving him more of a chance, just you wait & see.

There are a few other fighters outside Pac and Mayweather that make more per fight than McGregor I am pretty sure. Joshua, Klitschko for example. I am sure if Fury and Joshua fight it will be £20m each. The drop off after McGregor in earnings is insane as well.

Re: Conor McGregor vs. Floyd Mayweather (August 26th)

To say McGregor would be a huge draw in boxing is a big leap though. We have no clue, if he trained his whole career in boxing he might just be a solid fighter. We're talking the best in the world here, unless he is top 5 p4p he isn't making more $ than he is making right now.

And I tend to doubt he would be that good had he trained boxing his whole life. Being the best in MMA by far is much better than being pretty good in boxing.

Re: Conor McGregor vs. Floyd Mayweather (August 26th)

The guy quit boxing to take up MMA. That is pretty strong evidence that he wasn't anywhere close to having world class boxing talent because people usually don't quit sports where they're a world class prospect to take up another one. It's not like he had a crystal ball and knew he'd turn into the number one MMA fighter in the world, he was just some guy fighting in the minor leagues of MMA who lost 2 of his first 6 fights. So that's pretty strong evidence that he wasn't that a good a boxer to begin with it

I'm all on Floyd but Conor is gonna make Floyd look small and he's going to yip yap amazingly pre fight. CM is a great draw because he can talk. No respect for MM #cantwait. Pre show going to be worth it.

I do appreciate the link but spadafora was legit world class even tho he is an insane POS. He looks ten times better than Conor in this to my eyes

As far as size goes Conor will be bigger yes but Floyd has been a 154 champion it's not like he is new to this weight . I also think weight issues are generally overblown IMO

spadafora was a week out from a fight, floyd was out of shape and just starting a camp. it's a neat story though and would recommend reading up on it (as i did earlier today).
