C team so bad

In the grand scheme it's a bunch of backups. Ideally 4 or 5 of them would emerge and be viable for minutes next summer. I think Acosta, and Dwyer have already done that. Villafana hasn't looked bad going forward, but he needs reps with the 1s. Zusi is actually a pretty ideal 23rd man in that he can play every position on the outside and on his good day he's not a huge liability. It's probably not a stretch to say that Guzan benefits from a strong performance, and he had one yesterday. Bedoya is making the 23. He's not very good but he's a tough mother****er capable of positive things. It's easy to see how he helps a midfield that has both Pulisic and Acosta in it.

On the other side McCarty and Corona had awful, awful games. Neither could keep the ball the latter killing attacking pieces and the former turning it over in his own end a few times. Brutal. The defense dropped way too deep most of the match and their propensity to bomb their FBs forward really hurt as they didn't have guys to cover very well. McCarty doesn't cover a ton of ground, Rowe was overmatched, and Besler and Omar are a bit stodgy. Morris looks like a poor man's Wondo. Tactically we were poor but that is the other side of the coin when you have a manager who builds tactics off his players instead of plugging players into his tactics.

Agudelo probably earned a start. Let's see him, Hedges, Lichaj, and some of the others. Pressing may be finding a squad that can actually beat that Panama side in the next qualifier. They are impressive for 2nd tier CONCACAF.

Obviously the US looked pretty poor yesterday but I think maybe there was some overconfidence from the Ghana friendly. Everyone seemed a step slow getting to loose balls and passing before getting tackled. With so many younger and new faces to the team I think they just need some more time together. Arena will still need a few guys to show something to provide depth in the WC qualifiers and next summer. Dwyer has at least provided some finishing that has been missing so I wouldn't mind him being an option off the bench.
