Lets talk a little off season stuff. I would like some opinions from the expert posters on here.

The Ole Miss issue brought this back to light for me so I will use it as an example.
This was posted elsewhere

"Remember when the NCAA reportedly charged Ole Miss with 30 violations in three sports? Ole Miss spun it to friendly reporters as "Nothing to see here" in regards to Hugh Freeze's program.

Turns out those reporters got sold a bill of goods to stave off any bombshells before National Signing Day. Eventually, the other shoe was going to drop like it did on Tuesday."

These kids signed and could possibly find their team on some sort of probation in the coming months/years. They were not involved and by all accounts the real detail was withheld from them during the recruiting process. Should these kids be allowed to rescind their NLI's? Or how about the kids from USC, PSU, etc. They were recruited after the coaches/players transgressions that caused the sanctions happened. Should they be allowed to transfer without sitting out? For the most part the coaches can skate free - see John Vincent Calipari!!!

I don't know if opening it up like that would deter coaches and boosters from cheating, but maybe it would help...you cheat and you could lose your roster. I just get tired of seeing the players that did nothing wrong get held accountable for other misdeeds.

players should definitely be free to transfer without sitting out.

I'd love to see a standard part of being on probation being that your players can transfer away without sitting out.

ole miss would probably try to claw back that signing bonus tho

IIRC when the Sandusky stuff hit PSU droves of players left without consequence.

They made a special dispensation to let Pedo St players transfer.

The GOAT moment of that scandal was when the one PSU player stopped halfway on his visit to Sparty, said '**** the NCAA' and turned around.

Louisiana governor threatening to shut down LSU football do to budget bull ****.

Hey we don't have enough money lets shut down one of the 2 profitable things at LSU, that should help the budget issue.

****ing politicians

That's not how it works

LSU football isn't profitable to the state of LA

If the budget truly doesn't have money to pay the staff/teachers then classes and school gets cancelled...he isn't cancelling football but NCAA rules make the players ineligible (perhaps they can play all freshman?)

As the governor he can't authorize more funds; the legislators have to pass a new budget to pay for things...so he is using LSU football as an example of the downside to no new budget because that is what will get people riled up and no legislator wants to be responsible for LSU football being cancelled

But the profitability of LSU football doesn't affect the state budget

Perhaps boosters could push money into the school to keep it open (e.g., pay the staff's wages) if there is a period of time where the budget runs out

Could the boosters pay just enough teachers for the football team would need to stay eligible or would that be a no go for the NCAA rules

Knowing the SEC they'll use personal organizers stuffed with cash to hire them while still in grad school.

Having read nothing of the situation, there is no way in hell they are shutting down that football program
02-12-2016 , 11:19 PM
They aren't shutting down the program

If the state doesn't pass a new budget soon, then the school will stop holding classes this spring, which makes all students ineligible for fall football

It won't come to that; they'll pass a new budget...but if they don't, then they will not be able to play football this fall

6 women just filed a lawsuit against Tennessee for creating a "hostile environment" by trying to cover up sexual assaults by athletes. All the assaults took place from 2013-2015.
