In whatever game Phillips was doing yesterday, I think it was a 2 run game, lead batter gets on, and Phillips starts to explain why they're not bunting (something to do with how if you're a big underdog you just hope to hit a mistake out or something). God. I. Hate. Steve. Phillips.

I didn't watch the WBC last time, and after yesterday, I am having a very hard time taking it seriously.

That was Dick Jauron football in a nutshell. Bellichick goes for fourth and 1 on his own 24 yardline with a 6 point lead in the middle of the third quarter, Jauron punts with a ten point deficit late in the fourth quarter. Just a gutless team, they should fire him and make Bobby April the interim coach since special teams is about the only thing they're good at.

I also want to add one from yesterday. Falcons are down 16 to the patriots with around 6 minutes left. They have the ball and hit fourth down. Don't remember exactly what the situation was, but it around their own 35 and around fourth and 6.

And on comes the obvious chicken**** punt. It's so standard for the NFL i don't even know if I should mention it, but it drives me crazy.

What about the Purdue coach vs. Notre Dame on Saturday.

Purdue with a 4 point lead, Note Dame with a 2nd and goal from about the 5, 45 ish seconds left, Notre Dame has no timeouts.

ND runs a draw play and Purdue tackles the guy at the 3 yard line. It's now 3rd and goal with 36 seconds left and the clock is running.

Notre Dame looks completely panicky and indicates they are going to line up quickly and spike the ball (which itself is royally stupid but that's what they are gonna do).

Purdue then CALLS A TIMEOUT?!?!?!

The score is 23-21 LSU at the start of the 4th quarter. Miss St. elects punts the ball from LSU's 45 on 4th and 2.

Justice is served and the punt is returned for a TD.

In the Cal - Oregon game, the ducks were up 22 going into the half. Cal had the ball at their own 16 with 30 seconds left. After a run up the middle, Oregon called their second timeout. When Cal ran up the middle again with about 6 seconds left in the half, Oregon let the clock run out. It basically makes no difference but they gave Cal a freeroll on another running play by calling the timeout after second down but not third down.

I liked the first timeout because you might as well make them punt and go after it, but calling the first one and not the second is the only dumb thing you can do with the timeouts.
