I was talking about going for 2. I usually like it, but not when you suck total ass. I just think given those two teams, I'd rather go to OT. (tbh- yeah, it's not an "obviously stupid" move)

A whole slew of new posts in this thread today and none are about McCarthy and decision the Pack made to throw the ball from inside their own 10 with less than a minute left in the half?

Quote:
Green Bay - 0:52
1st-10, GB9 0:52 A. Rodgers incomplete pass down the middle
2nd-10, GB9 0:44 A. Rodgers sacked by J. Allen. A. Rodgers sacked for a safety
Come on, this has to be today's winner.

2 weeks ago Herm was being shut out and kicked a meaningless FG with no time left in the 4th qtr inside the 5. That was a bad call, this one was good.

Clock management by Dick Jauron.

1:30 left in the half, 4th&2 on villian's 39. 3 time outs left.
Me: "Please go for it".
Jauron: Sends punting unit on the field. NE does not stop the clock as it runs.
Playclock is down to 1 second.
Me: "OK, I disagree with punting, but I can accept taking a delay of game here".
Time out Buffalo with 1 second on the playclock.
Me: "OK, well they're obviously going for it now".
Greg Gumble: And we're back from commercial.
Me: "Wait is that Moorman on the field? This is a joke right?"
Punt down'd at the 1 yard line.
1st Down: NE run, time out Bills.
Me: WTF?
2nd Down: NE run, time out Bills.
Me: WTF?
3rd Down: Bellichick has Cassell takes a knee because he can. Guess who is out of time outs?
Me: Goes to fridge and kicks up the alcohol level to a 9% IPA.

Like our president, Jauron is a Yale grad.

And weren't they down by 10? At that point, Jauron is just giving up the game when they had a non-zero chance of winning.

Ehh, it's only bad because they should really use that as a chance to run a red-zone play, since they get so few opportunities. Other than that, they were gonna lose anyway so getting the goose egg off the board was probably fine.

Today Kubiak was his same old self. 1st and goal on the 1 yard line, down 7-0 (IIRC), and instead of running it 3 times in a row, ldo, he has Sage throw it and of course throws an INT in the endzone. That kind of sh*t totally changes the makeup of a football game and it drives me insane. Kubiak & Co. do this so much, leaving points on the field all the damn time early in the game, and force themselves to play catchup the rest of the game, ditching the run and throwing 4 INTs and driving their fan-base out of the stadium early.

Ewww, this is gross. Sometimes I wonder how much better we've all gotten at clock-management solely based on playing Madden. lol.

I'm pretty awesome at time-management just because I practice it (by necessity) all the time playing Madden. These coaches...are terrible at it. I wonder if playing the video game would seriously do them any good. It seems like it would; they can't possibly get any worse, can they?

All the ******ed coaching moves today and you're harping on this? Chiefs were 15 pt dogs in that game, there's nothing wrong with the play. They also had onside kick equity, which is definitely worth something.

Herm 2pc actually wasn't a bad decision.

What it shows is that he has absolutely no confidence in his team's talent. He believes so much that the Chiefs will lose in OT that he was willing to risk the loss here. That lack of confidence is not only insulting to the entire Chiefs team, but it reflects poorly upon Herm Edwards since he is the one trying to give these players confidence.

Does it say the same thing about Mike Shanahan and Denver when he did it?

I think it's simple: They're a bad team and they're on the road; this one play is their best chance to win. Gotta be better than going to overtime, where they'll probably lose if they lose the toss, and even if they win it, their offense is pretty bad. I'd rather depend on them to make one play now than to have a 50/50 shot to put together a drive.

Did anyone see the Purdue/Michigan State game? Why was Purdue's QB throwing the ****ing ball from deep in his own territory with only 30 seconds before halftime? He hadn't completed a pass all day then threw a pick 6 instead just running out the clock. Really is time for Joe Tiller to retire if he called that play.

they were down by seven iirc, and yeah, my first thought was "someone better post this awful clock management in the stupid coach decision thread"

Seriously. When will a team hire a ''time management'' coach. It would probably be worth one extra win a year for most teams.

And I want to nominate Mike Holmgren for coming back this season. He should be ashamed to keep cashing his paychecks.

thigpen should of booted the ball between the uprights when he couldn't find anyone open instead of trying to force it to gonzalez
