Yeah but what about the next game. If you let them score the D will be demoralized and only guys as old as Jason Taylor can put that stuff behind them.

I assume you're joking. If not, take this silliness to the momentum thread.

Meh, as coaching philosophies colliding with game theory goes, it's fine for "Never allow the other team to score" to eliminate a few practical longshots for the benefit of certitude.

I wonder how bad a decision, or maybe not a bad decision at all, it was for Michigan to kick the extra point, rather than going for two, to make it 23–17 late in the second quarter. I suppose the likelihood that there are exactly matching scores or matching + one Ohio State touchdown is fairly low, but I'd think going for two would at least be worth considering and could easily be right.

Doesn't really qualify for this thread either way, except for the relationship to later-game PAT decisions and how they get made.

But like in that situation they gave up enormous amounts of equity. Enormous. The chance of Miami scoring with 1:30/2 timeouts has to be significantly higher than the chance of Bailey missing that FG.

The example here is the classic open folding made royal flushes as an example of an error that doesn't hurt you that much, but:

A) You still shouldn't open fold royals, and doing so is unequivocably ******ed

B) This is more like open folding made full houses, it happens pretty often in close games

I posted this earlier, but everyone seemed to ignore it. If you believe Dallas will kneel at the 1, which is obviously the correct play, than playing defense and forcing them to kick a 35 yard fg instead of a 17 yard FG is clearly the right play.

we didn't ignore it, it's just that dallas wouldn't kneel at the 1.

In the 2nd quarter you take the sure point. Not even a close decision. However spiking the ball down 6 with 50 seconds to go on 3rd and 6 is beyond lol.

It's more like, "Never fold a full house". If that's your leak it's really not that bad, even though sometimes it will be wrong.

Nice timeout call before receiving a punt with 2:15 left in the half

What is more important 5 yards or a timeout? How many times do we people burn timeouts when I think taking the delay is the better play there. I feel like timeouts are worth so much more than 5 yards. If I'm the coach nobody calls a timeout except for me.

Agree with the above.

I've been harsh on Black Chilly, but he surprised me twice today.
Going for it 4th and 13 from the ATL 39 down 10 in the 4th.
Going for it 4th and goal at the 1 down 10 in the 4th.

Kinda surprised why Raheem Morris didn't ask for a spot on the 4th and 1 against TENN.

Could have stopped the clock and called a play while it was being measured.

Instead Freeman rushed the snap, fumbled, and lost.

I'm willing to bet it is a close decision, though I certainly understand that casualfan will think otherwise. I ran it through an equity calculator (NFL though) and it was close enough that rounding error made it impossible to tell which is better.

Hue Jackson icing the onside kicker was a pretty awesome move.

Using your last timeout to ice the kicker, when it's a very long kick which is likely to be missed, and you might need it to get a chance to win the game if it is missed.

edit: Fox in OT with ~ 2:30 left.

Norv running three straight times and settling for a 50 yarder
John Fox punting at 4th and 1 from the Den 40 in OT

Also seems dumb to kick the field goal with 30 seconds left when you can put your team in a no lose situation by winding it down.

Norv Turner,, everything he does..

but even on the last play, not using one of his timeouts and letting the clock go down to 30 seconds , when jic denver missed that field goal. he was settling for a tie instead of giving rivers a little more time.

Norv throwing away the WP 4th down at the 50 last play of regulation.

Rivers had something to say to Norv about it, which I am sure was along the lines of "are we trying to win this game?"
