given the recent news, might as well make a catch-all thread for these, since there's bound to be many more, for the rest of time...

The NBA is investigating Raptors forward Jontay Porter over a series of betting irregularities, according to a report Monday from ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski. The investigation reportedly centers on two games in which bettors wagered and made hefty amounts of money on player prop bets—specifically unders involving Porter in a Jan. 26 game against the Los Angeles Clippers and a March 20 game against the Sacramento Kings.

In the game against the Clippers, Porter's prop numbers were set at 5.5 points, 4.5 rebounds, 1.5 assists, and 0.5 made three-pointers. Porter had started the team's previous game against the Memphis Grizzlies, although he injured his eye and came off the bench against Los Angeles. After recording three rebounds, one assist, and zero attempted shots in his four minutes of play, Porter left the game with what the team said was a reaggravation of the eye injury. He had also appeared to avoid grabbing a rebound at the end of the first quarter. Two days later, he played 20 minutes, scoring 12 points and grabbing seven rebounds.

In the other game under investigation, Porter played three minutes in a blowout loss to the Kings, recording one missed shot and two rebounds before he left with an illness. A sportsbook source told ESPN that bettors were putting more than $20,000 on Porter under prop bets in both instances, significantly more than usual. "People were trying to do whatever they could to bet Jontay Porter props," the source told Wojnarowski.

Porter, the brother of Michael Porter Jr., is on a two-way deal with the Raptors this season, earning $415,000 for his part in the team's otherwise forgettable season. He hasn't played since March 22, sitting out the Raptors' last two games for personal reasons. As the co-founder of a stock tips newsletter called The Financial Cloud, he's been vocal in the past about augmenting his basketball income as a prolific day-trader and crypto guy. Porter has also tweeted about sports betting a few times over the years.

As part of their daily report to users, DraftKings announced following both of those games that the Porter prop was its biggest money-loser of the evening.

i know it seems like a pretty open and shut case, but have you considered that maybe it's all the translator's fault ???

first 3 mins

noted snooker fat stephen lee needs to lose the frame because the fix is in. the problem is that his opponent is having a mare and keeps missing easy shots, so stephen has great difficulty losing

1:46 for the money shot, and 2:11 for the other money shot

FWIW his opponent Higgins was also involved in a cheating scandal.

Ha my buddy plays cards with and knows the exact syndicate that did this. He told me a year ago about one guy they picked about 4 spots with and made about a million on all their gazzillion outs they use. That player is now in the Pacific Division.

Also last year when I watched that guy’s props fly way under the night the he told him to watch the board and watch the game on who it was. Called him later and was like “damn these guys got rich tonight.” He told me after another time they did it, that this was nothing on how bad they had Michael Porter Jr’s brother by the balls due to all his gambling debts with them. Kind of funny to see this come out now.

I knew the nba would make the Porter Jr situation go away.

It's a huge ****ing story! A nba player betting on himself.

I feel like it's on the Donaghy bad level.

How many people do they have in the syndicate? I would think most sites would have something like a $5k limit on player props and wouldn't surprise me if it was lower.

I have no idea. I just know who supposedly the main guy is and of course I'm not naming anybody's name. Beyond that all I know is what my buddy tells me here and there.

They have hundreds of outs where they bust every one of them eventually. One bookie my buddy got them on was small time and they took him for about 15k the first week. He called up Cris as he runs a PPH skin through them, and they told him cut them off immediately as they're one of the biggest and most powerful syndicates in the world and will take you for everything you have. He stiffed them for it, and apparently they didn't care and are used to it. Another one was big, and called my buddy up whining after he get in the hole 100k. He told him to cut them off and had warned him. They teased him and lost back a lot where he felt good. Ultimately took him for 300k before he cut em off.

I called him last night about it and asked didn't he tell me MPJr's brother, and he said yep. Supposedly he's in debt millions to them. I have a screen shot of the bet they made that got them busted by Draftkings that he sent me. Apparently they just got greedy and parlayed every under on every prop huge, and Javonte's props were their heaviest exposure overall every time they did it. That's all I know and probably more than I should have said. I don't want this bunch coming after me.
