7-7, first play of second quarter.

It's bad but not that bad. Midfield punts are generally worse. The fact that it's 4th and inches is what makes it bad, especially with Brady who excels at QB sneak. If it was like 4th and 2 it's still wrong but wouldn't be worth commenting on.

Not sure if this thread is NFL only, but Kevin Sumlin single handedly lost the game against UCLA last weekend by continuing to snap the ball with 20 seconds on play clock and continuing to pass with an inept backup quarterback in the game when A&M had a 34 point lead late in the third quarter. He literally did this the entire second half. It was unbelievable.

Never understand why teams don't run the ball down to 1 second every play in the second half when up by 14+

Sure you can snap at 6 seconds sometimes. Or 3. So defense doesn't tee off. But snapping with 25 seconds left. GD.

Unless you are Oregon and running that hurry up. That's fine. Run your offense. But for most NFL teams.

Especially the Falcons last year. They prob could have taken a knee every snap up 28-3 and won

In the NFL if you run on first down. Run clock to 0. Take delay of game penalty. The 40 second clock resets and you get 40 more seconds!

If it's 3rd and 11 just run up middle. Delay of game. That's 85 seconds on one play!

They did add a rule that you can only take two consecutive delay of game penalties, after which it is an unsportsmanlike conduct penalty and the game clock stops.

Has any team ever tried taking delay of game penalties to run out the clock?

Not running sneaks on all 3 of those 4th and shorts last night seems sub-optimal. It's not like teams can beat it, even when they know it's coming. Brady just stands there and punches the ball into the first hole he sees.

When you're a lock to make the playoffs then saving BARDY until it matters is ok. There is a reason Brady and Peyton made it so long, they took very few hits. Running a normal play is obv better than kicking though.

Most of the time on sneaks Brady just stands back there and waits for a hole to open, the sticks the ball in and pulls it back. Worst case scenario he dives off-center forward and low - hard for much to get twisted.

He's probably less risk than an average pass play. I don't ever remember seeing a Brady sneak where I was like "whew glad he's ok".

By the time you do it again, you wasted 50 seconds. When there are only about 1,200 left and you are up about 17. That's f huge.

Let's just say I was an NFL head coach. That rule would be changed after my first year.

Just from memory it seems like Brady mostly sneaks it by running up to the line quick and finding a hole where the defense didn't line up properly. Both of the 4th downs last night came after measurements, and it seems like they rarely sneak it when the defense has plenty of time to line up correctly. Or maybe he's just old and they don't want to break him now
