Who had the better season?

2006 Champ Bailey:

Thrown at 35 times, allowed 4 receptions (almost 10% completion rate), defended 21 of those passes, tied for league lead with 10 INTS.

Also had 98 tackles (84 solo) for 3rd best on the team, trailing LB's Al Wilson (113) and Ian Gold (101).

Six of Champ's 10 INTS came inside the Broncos' 4-yard line, and 3 were inside the end zone.

If he would have had 1 more fumble recovery, he would have led the league in takeaways.

I don't know who Champ lined up against every game in 2006 as I can't find that info. I also don't know if he was always against the #1 (as Revis was/is) or if he only played one side of the field.

don't want to hate on revis at all, but thrown at 35 times says so much. i told everyone who would listen that bailey was the best player in the league for 3 years. a couple people took my point, but didn't really believe. which is fine, not like it's an exact science. but bailey was great blitzing, great in run support, great tackler in space while in zone, and obv great out on bailey island. great at everything. the way he did it with his hips turned in and running sideways most the time was just sick to watch. totally nonstandard technique, but never got his hips flipped. what a player.

That stat about 35 thrown at, 4 receptions has to be total BS. Just look at it the same way Revis is being considered - what were the stats of the #1 WR of the opposing team the day they played?

Here's the stats for my judgment of who the #1 WR was on the other team, and their performance (Moss was technically #2 in stats behind Ronald Curry in Oakland, but I have to think of him as #1). It is definitely notable that no #1 WR scored a TD in a game vs Denver that year.

Total opponents: 61 catches for 788 yards and no TD. However, it's worth noting that he only played 4 games vs 1000yd WRs while Revis played vs 7.

DVOA for JEts vs #1 WRs last year was -39.6 and 7.2 Attempts PG (APG) and 29.4 Yards Per Game (YPG). Against #2s it was -20.4 and 6.3 APG and 44.4 YPG. I think Jets lined Revis up with #1s almost exclusively but I could be wrong.

DVOA for Broncos vs #1 WRs in 2006 was -17, 60 YPG and 7.6 APG. #2 it is -15.2, 7.8 APG and 58.1 YPG.

My guess is if Champ's stats are correct he just guarded a side while Revis moved around with the #1s. Denver's overall D was nowhere near as good as the Jets as well so they obviously avoided Champ while the Jets forced it to Revis's way by doubling the #2 a lot of the time and leaving Revis with 1 on 1 with the opposing teams best receiver.

reggie wayne played 1 half? ted ginn didn't start the second game, and i don't think he played all that much. So your zero receptions is kind of misleading. also, i am sure it looks good to put TO down there, but lets be honest, he had no qb to get him the ball.
