Re: NHL Offseason 2012 Thread

Vigneault is one of the better coaches in the league... I think management is smart enough to keep him. But if the Canucks really do end up getting swept, something huge has to happen. Probably end of one of Luongo/Kesler/Sedins careers in Vancouver.

Hey, the Sedins could be just the thing Columbus is looking for in exchange for Nash and their 2nd.

Murphy is probably playing in the WC because he's the top rated Canadian prospect and the Leafs have a top 5 pick; so the hockey world wants to ensure the Leafs don't take him by making him as much of a valuable Canadian as possible

Come on. Canada has to be the favorite with Sidney Crosby and Roberto Luongo on the team

Re: NHL Offseason 2012 Thread

Also, re: Canucks, I think Vigneault is too much of a net positive to get axed. He's working with babies and mental midgets yet he's the one guy in that organization that I feel keeps the most consistent professional and rational appearance in public. I have quite a bit of respect for him.

Having said that, he'd be the easiest change to a team that obviously has a very talented core, and the front office might feel like a more authoritative, hardass figure could instill a greater level of discipline in that room. I don't know how much I'd agree with that, but that'll be the rationale behind firing him if he does get let go.

One thing I'd bet reasonable money on: Roberto Luongo has played his last game as a Vancouver Canuck. I think he's far more likely to get traded this offseason than Kiprusoff. And yes, I realize that contract is an albatross.

Probably so Lowe can get a good look before he trades down and drafts him at 3-5.

Re: NHL Offseason 2012 Thread

Trading Luongo requires a few different things

a) Lu to waive his no trade clause for a specific team
b) That team to have a billion dollars in salary cap space
c) that specific team actually wants Luongo
d) the Canucks to accept a trade offered by this specific team

What I'm trying to say is that by the time we hit c) on this list, we've eliminated 100% of possible trades.

Vancouver's only option is to trade Schneider's rights away (or wait for an offer sheet), and stick out the decade with Lu.

Re: NHL Offseason 2012 Thread

yeah that was my implication with the line of:

Quote:
Kevin Lowe wants to take him to the Worlds just so he can get a better look
i think it was Dreger (who is obv connected to the Leafs) was floating the #5 + Gardiner/Schenn for #1 rumour. LOiLers get a couple D-men, Leafs get Yakupov.
