Half time

Hawks 9.3
Eagles 3.8

Eagles not out of it yet imo

All over. Go Hawks!

That. Is. All.

Let the heavy drinking commence!

Josem will be over the moon I'm sure.

Btw - I'm bitterly disappointed that they won.

Cyril and Shane Burgoyne the only sentient creatures of good in that lot and rest are inbred kiddy fiddlers who sodomize underage fauns

Hawks fans are generally a pretty decent bunch (Josem excepted, obviously :P)

West Coast are a club I have a certain amount of irrational hatred for, so I was OK with the result, though it's always slightly annoying to see a team win three in a row.

I don't really follow AFL (being a soccer guy) and am not a fan of either Adelaide team. I've had an affinity for Richmond since high school though and would definitely be a fan if I moved to Melbourne. Hoping they get a shot at a premiership soon. Good fan base.

Australian Football is on FS2 right now, haven't watched it since the 80's when it was on ESPN.... why don't the refs have on the white uniforms and funny hats? They're dressed like NASCAR pit crewmen. Terrible.

I think it was like early or mid 00s that they changed to having coloured uni's for the umpires. Certainly was better when they had sweet hats and trench coats for the goal umpires.

Coloured uniforms happened in 2004

Originally there was a range of colours (depending on teams could be green, red, white, yellow or blue) but has since settled on the baby green colour (no team plays in green anymore)

Agree on trench coats, remind me to link best goal umpire video ever here later on when I get to a laptop.

Random first round musings

I really liked Adelaide today. As in top 2 liked, elite forward line and did the job today without a big effort from Sloane.

Eagles (my team) looked solid, as did Cats. Jordan Lewis is a beast, and I hope Riewoldt is fine. Heppell is an animal.

I meant to have money on Adelaide and never got it on. I don't really follow the sport that much but it seemed like GWS were being anointed overlords of the league before a ball had been kicked in anger. Adelaide were +8.5 at one stage which was pretty aggressive for a good team at home. They closed +2.5 which might have been nearer the mark.

Port Adelaide -18.5 is my stone cold lock of the century of the week.

That line will move to 30s by the time the game starts.

was there a cited reason that they stopped wearing the white coats?

gws looked pretty fraudulent just rolling over

hawks offseason not looking too hot after rnd1, although essendon did play very well and benefited from hawthorn inaccuracy

Yes the cats looked solid across the park rather than the usual relying heavily on Selwood and Danger. A good chance for the flag, especially as the Swans and Hawks look vulnerable and the big hopes for the season GWS also didn't get off to the best start.

Just want to put this sport out there as one going ahead despite the corona virus for obvious sports betting potential. Ashley will provide more info about it for those interested.

Yeah just watching the Essendon v Fremantle game right now - got to say I didn't miss Eddie McGuire's usual comment when describing a long kick when he says x player "goes long and strong".

Also, with the no crowd, it just seems as though the game is just a training game between the senior and reserves team where there is hardly any intensity shown and players aren't willing to build pressure by tackling hard.
