Speaking in French to Swiss reporters, Federer claimed not to be too disappointed while pointing a finger at Wawrinka.

“I played well enough in doubles, but Stanislas not so much,” Federer said, adding that Wawrinka “didn’t have his best match in singles; it’s a shame, because of that defeat, we weren’t able to put the U.S. under pressure.”
Federer can be so hard to root for sometimes.

LOL that had to be a level unless Fed has fallen off the deep end.

This makes me like Federer even more. There's nothing in sports I love more than someone unapologetically throwing their teammates under the bus.

It was a really embarrassing loss for wawrinka and I dont see how anyone could say he played well in that match. Fish is the worst clay courter in the top 50.

Stan and Fed are like best buddies and I think they like to rip on eachother mercilessly for fun.

Fed has totally ripped on wawrinka in the press several times. Once a few years ago after he played against stan, fed said he thought stan gave up about halfway through the match and basically called him a pussy and a quitter.

Earlier this week, Fed said his approach to DC is that it doesn't matter if we win or lose, it's just about having a good time with my friends.

Doesn't he have to play DC this year to be eligible for the Olympics? Is that how it works?

the way I understand it is you don't actually have to play you just have to make yourself available to play.

Since the ITF has control over who gets in the olympics, they use it to blackmail players into playing davis/fed cup on olympic years.

Well the photo was shot in 1976 but maybe the balls are from way back then. However the balls and racquet is not what is getting my attention.

Nadal, verdasco, and feli lopez are all not playing DC this year. The spanish team is almagro, granollers, ferrero and marc lopez.

Milos withdrew from his match against tsonga today because of a bad knee. Makes you wonder why they put him in the dubs match. Tsonga crushed frank dancevic to clinch it for france.

Re: ATP/WTA 2012 Tennis discussion thread + more hot wta pics than last year imo

Ferrer isn't playing DC either.

Melanie Oudin lost R1 of another $25k challenger this week, continuing her epic downfall. Her ranking will be about #210-215 next week. The last time she won a WTA level main draw match (not counting retirements/walkovers) was april 18th last year. She has 200 points to defend in the next 2.5 months, and unless she starts winning at least a few first round matches, her ranking could realistically be in the 400s by the end of april.

lolcanada, your ****ty health care may have cost you a davis cup tie:

Quote:
Misread of Raonic injury led to Davis Cup pullout
Ticker - Thursday, February 16, 2012
Canada’s Milos Raonic says that a misread MRI on his injured left knee forced him to pull out of his Davis Cup match against France’s Jo-Wilfried Tsonga on Sunday and that if it had been read correctly he would have played.

Frank Dancevic subbed in for Canada’s top player and lost to Tsonga to clinch the tie 3-1 for France.

"It was bad luck last week," Raonic told TENNIS.com in San Jose. “After we lost to doubles I went to have an echography [in Vancouver] and I was told I had four millimeter tear in the tendon and it was month long recovery. I was told that if I played on Sunday it could completely snap and I’d be out for eight to 12 months. So it was a no- brainer not to play. So I spoke to my doctor in Spain and I came here because I knew the services were really good at the Stanford Medical Clinic. I did an MRI and I was told it was just misplaced fluid instead of a tear and it was just showing tendonitis and I could play through, it won’t get any worse. It was little a disheartening because I was in the dark and I wish I could have played. If I knew I wasn’t taking a risk, I would have played Tsonga. I was sore, but I knew if I could take a pain killer, I could probably have played through the pain."

Raonic is defending title in San Jose this week and beat Tobias Kamke 6-2, 7-6 (7) in his opening match. - Matt Cronin
Milos hit a 155mph serve tonight btw
