Re: Aaron Hernandez: ruh roh?

I wonder if they're saying he's not a suspect because they want to make really sure (but then isn't that the definition of "suspect"? you're not sure...)

or if he's just covering for a friend in some way.

Reports of "uncooperative" are def not a good look.

"Patriots tight end Aaron Hernandez has reportedly been questioned in a homicide investigation, although he is not considered a suspect."

Everyone is a suspect, but I doubt he did it. /gut

Legit lol'd at the reaction. **** me...with Gronkowski out, we just simply can't afford Hernandez to murder someone right now. Terrible timing for him to kill another man.

Re: Aaron Hernandez: ruh roh?

Usually the "not a suspect" language is for the purpose of not messing up the investigation when a potential suspect realizes he is a suspect. It's a classification used by the police, but being classified as "not a suspect" does not mean the police think he wasn't involved or didn't do it. It only might mean that.

EDIT: Also, the warrant means the police believe evidence pertaining to the murder is likely to be available at his home. Perhaps that's his testimony and belongings, perhaps his friend stayed with him or stashed a weapon or something, perhaps the police believe Hernandez helped one of his boys cover-up a murder, etc.

There’s still no evidence that Hernandez is or will be a suspect. Given that the the body was found in the vicinity of a car that, per SI, was rented in Hernandez’s name, a level of stupidity on par with Jesse Pinkman would be necessary to result in Hernandez actually being involved.

But that's just for purposes of PR and because he's somewhat of a big star, right?

How long did it take before Ray Lewis was called a suspect when that story broke? I don't really remember.

How big or small is the police department in that area, if it's real small wouldn't be shocking for all 10 of their cars to respond.

My dad is from a small town and when there was a fender bender up to 6 squad cars would race to the scene with lights and sirens.

Actually you'll see the "not a suspect" language regularly in normal criminal investigations as well. It may be because he's "famous" or whatever but it's probably standard operating procedure until such point that an arrest is imminent.

Also, you asked if it's for PR purposes. In a sense yes, but for the police PR, not his. If you say "not a suspect" and then he becomes one, you weren't wrong. If you say "is a suspect" and he's innocent, you were wrong. In short, you can't look bad when you say he's "not a suspect," no matter what ends up happening. Also, there's no upside in an investigation to announcing to a suspect that he's the suspect in a murder. Then he calls a lawyer, nothing gets done easily, etc.

Ya, that's what I meant, from a police perspective.

Would it really surprise anyone to learn that Hernandez is roughly as smart as Jesse Pinkman?

Sick coincidence that two deliveries arrived for Hernandez during this questioning.

Also, for what it's worth, he probably already has lawyers working on this but whatever. Uncooperative could easily mean that.
