There's a lot of foam in the press in Europe over a proposal from the European T&F/Athletics organization to purge all world records set before 2005*.

So, I suppose, e.g., broadcasters would be under contract to not refer to those things.

The 'rationale' is to 'bring credibility back to T&F/athletics'.

Do people have opinions on this?

If it is a good move: how about taking away all medals from all World Championships and/or Olympics before 2005?

Not sure what this accomplishes. Are they claiming no one has doped their way to a world record since 2005? Cuz lol at that.

Semi relevant there's a sub 2 hour marathon attempt tonight/tomorrow.

Who gives a ****. The athletes today are putting up better numbers than back then anyways.

Men's records pre 2005 in the main events

1500 3:26.00 1998
Mile 3:43.13 1999
5000 12:37.35 2004
400H 46.78 1992
HJ 2.45 1993
LJ 8.95 1991
All the throwing events

So would impact the field events mostly and it seems like they were all dopers.

Better yet everyone should just come to grips with the fact that most elite athletes are doped to the gills, and all the records that were thrown out in the past should be reinstated.
