None of this makes any sense to me.

You probably grew up playing organized basketball in a rec league, with a coach.

In my older years we just ran pick and rolls every play. Either take the layup if it's open or kick it out for the open 3. Beat a few scrub teams from upstate NY, then in like the quarterfinals you inevitably meet a team from Harlem, Hartford or Springfield, get waxed, go to the main court and watch Lou Roe dunk on some weekend warriors.

GOAT childhood memories. I'd love to watch it in the olympics no matter who's playing in it.
Lou Roe was awesome

I still remember those umass teams like it was yesterday. Camby, Edgar Padilla, Kellog, Donta Bright and one of the greatest names in ncaa history Dana Dingle

There's guys out there that could legit make 50/50

If you've ever been to a decent basketball camp they usually make the rounds and put on shooting clinics. Obv they can't do anything else but it could be a super tense competition where dudes are on like 88 made in a row and one miss costs them.

I imagine it's like most other events, countries will hold their own qualifying events, and basically any country can submit a team to compete in the Olympics? Many countries won't, but I'd guess that the format here will be able to support many teams. games are fast, you can play multiple times in a row, etc.

but like others said, I *think* it would be on the NBA to allow/not allow players to compete. and as an added wrinkle, team composition is even more important than it is in full court, so you can't just pick the 3 best guys and throw them together. Unless those 3 guys are Kawhi and Curry and Durant, they need to be able to mesh together.

I dunno, but it would be super fun to see the NBA guys play this game, but it sounds doubtful.

There's a tournament where you can qualify for the fiba, I'll assume they do something similar for the olympics. Likewise I think I read there will only be 8 squads across all countries.

That's not how other events work. Not every country can submit teams/individuals for an event (only exception is the home country which gets to submit for every event IIRC). If this were the case, you'd see tons more teams in every event. For team events, they cap the number of entrants and then each has a governing body that determines which countries those spots go to (and how many spots each country can have).

The big wrinkle for this will be how the players on each team are chosen. For most team events, the country picks the team (which can be completely different from the team that qualified).

However, for a few events, you pick your own team and then qualify with those people - best example I can think of is beach volleyball, where every duo gets ranked based on performance in various qualifying tournaments, and then it's those two specific players that get Olympic berth).

I'd assume that for 3v3 it will be qualifying as a specific team, which will make it nearly impossible for NBA players to qualify (especially if qualifying tournaments run during NBA season).

interesting. but I thought it was basically up to countries to submit competitors? For instance that's how you end up with Eddie the Eagle and the weird prince who skis for Mexico (who is completely outmatched but always competes)

There's different rules for developing countries that would otherwise never qualify

Don't forgot Padilla's backcourt teammate Carmelo Travieso.

My favorite number to wear was 3 on my youth sports teams because of dana dingle.

Idk how the Olympics will go, but this BIG3 basketball league is pure garbage.

I'd rather watch full court pickup basketball at my local gym.

The thing that still sticks out about this is the ****ing ball size.

I don't understand at all.

For goat nba team KD is #1 pick

Steph

Then I think LeBron. I could be convinced on kiwi or some other tall rebounding monster.
