Dude you have a blogspot blog without any ads. I think this thread will be a lot better and easier to read if you just list the names, in red or something, and post a link to the article with that set. That's just my opinion, but I think this thread will get more views and posts if you just link.

Without doing something similar, I have no idea what the top 200 looks like. Do you have a list of rejects, guys on the bubble as they say for college basketball? If you just posted a list without any comment we'd be better able to gauge things.

Take Sergio Ramos. My main thought on him when trying to be objective is that he's like the US national team. He's very overrated by some but even more underrated by others. Your article does a good job of doing both of those I think he's given too much credit for his play going forward and too much blame for bad defending. He's got to be one of the tougher cases though since he's on a club that doesn't defend ("We will not miss Makélélé. His technique is average, he lacks the speed and skill to take the ball past opponents, and 90% of his distribution either goes backwards or sideways." - F. Perez) and a national side that doesn't need to. His positioning is tough to judge since he does go forward a lot.

I like the +/- comment. I'm working on recording that stuff but it takes programming skills I don't currently have (a little while I'm at a tiny bit right now). There are all kinds of biases at work here, but one thing that doesn't make Ramos look good is that thinking back to matchups with the other team's attacking player, it seems like he gets outplayed by the corresponding player in big matches. Perotti and Capel certainly won the battle there and Sevilla's first goal came on a cross from the left (his right). It was a nice little overlap play and not really his fault but he did give Perotti a lot of space. I don't watch a ton of Real Madrid when they're playing somebody bad, but it seems like he plays better than his guy most of the time against the weaker sides but almost always gets outplayed against top opponents.

I did almost do that. And at one point I did have 250 or so players put in order. But I dunno, I kind of like the unpredictable factor and also with the danger of sounding very full of myself, I like the idea of some poor soul who keeps hoping and hoping right until the very best players in the end, that his favorite player will show up, only to have his hopes crushed by the fact that his best player was indeed ranked 247 and didn't even make it!

But if by posting all these players it doesn't get too predictable and it's easier to relate and compare, at least in the beginning, maybe I should post "my bubble".

Given has been in outstanding form this season and is a huge factor in City's good results. Sunday's game was a prime example, he saved a penalty and made 2-3 other class saves to keep a clean sheet.

These are the most surprising names to me, after a quick scan. But I understand you don't have a lot of defenders on there?

Yeah not a lot of central defenders. And there are maybe even a lot better central defenders than some of those there on the bubble.

Mutu still has some very nice skills and he was pretty close but he hasn't really been able to play (play well) for even 90 minutes for quite a while now and certainly not twice a week. So that really counted against him.

Glen Johnson is somewhat of a victim to Ramos being so low. I don't think he is a very good defender either.
There will be much better at his position higher up and what he offers forward, though fine, I don't think is quite on for an example the Ramos level.

Alex is very solid... I dunno... I think someone like Lucio is still better, if not as a pure defender, then as a player, though Alex of course has skills too, which is why he is even on the bubble!

Little bit surprised Agger bubbled, Joe Cole is injury related of course and Ivanovic is interesting. Now that he's getting more playing time at Chelsea he may show himself to be better than some people think.

Yeah I think he is really good. Fanni is somewhat of a victim of me not being quite sure just how good he is exactly, but other than that Ivanovic might very well be the best fullback left out and not with as much difference in quality to some of the higher ranked fullbacks that the difference in placings would suggest.
There were just too many players in other positions I couldn't get myself to rank him ahead of.

I would have thought Glen Johnson was a victim of being massively suspect positionally/defensively.

TBH these lists are an impossibility, nobody sees enough of any of the players to make a call, particularly those at the less glamorous clubs.
