You have an RP for each year, but you dont cross RPs over years.

Its so so ****ing obvious, I cant beleive I am having to elucidate.

How many KWs is the RP for 2017, how many Keegans is 1976, thus giving you a perfectly reasonable way to compare RPs with no carbonite.

Also your claiming that its useful for comparing across different seasons but not within one season is frankly just strange and weird.

Im not wedded to this concept in anyway, but just have to remark on the massive dumbness of your analysis of it.

arnie = 1 RP, lacazette = 2.64 RP, ederson = 1.75 RP

why is that better than arnie = £20m, laca = £52m, ederson = £35m. 0 progress made, pointless

no absolutely not. peter osgood went for 0.33 RP in 1976, arnautovic is worth 0.44 RP in 2017. but using your method you cant say 2017 arnautovic absolute value > 1976 peter osgood cos your value of RP isn't constant. that's where the carbonite comes in

You can make someone like Matuidi RP, but obviously he had circunstances that made his transfer unique (high wages). Every transfer is unique in its own way (positional scarcity at the buying or selling club, brave Englishness etc..

If you want to compare eras I guess just compare fees as a % of club expenditure or something

Whatever, the point is there are and were still plenty of posters expressing shock and awes at certain valuations of players, whilst making the mistake of looking at that valuation in a vacuum.

Having an agreed upon statistically valid reference point makes looking at individual purchases and over all club transfer performance, in context, that bit easier.
