Just saw this. Wonder if there will be anything worth drafting by the time it gets around to me. With RoCo gone I can only assume there are like 7 decent 1st round picks in this format.

Defensive RPM the last two years:

Jokic : 3.61,2.29
Towns : -.32, -1.41

Defensive BPM the last two years:

Jokic : 2.2, 2.2
Towns : 1.2, .2

It's probably not a good idea to knock a guy's defense then pick the worst defending center in the game imo.

I guess if anyone can find a way for Embiid stay healthy over reasonable minutes it's AEJones.

*shrug* we'll see how these things turn out

I certainly have my perspective on how it will turn out

I have a draft board of 11 guys I would be cool taking & pick in 6 picks, so that's ok.

I think Jokic went too early and Staps/Covington went way too early, but the great thing about this draft is that I'm not at all confident in those thoughts. I could def end up being proven wrong by how much those teams can crush in the later rounds. Will be very interesting.

I had the clear top tier as:

1. Kawhi
2. Durant
3. Lebron

Really unsure who I go with at #4. Jokic seems reasonable.

I'm sure you've been itchy of defaulting to "sort by RPM" since jokic became irrelevant in april. glad i gave you the opportunity to do it.

My 8th or 9th pick whatever it is is straight up better going forward than the #1 pick and while he's been sucking at defense, he's got the tools and athleticism to become really good as he progresses and learns. Jokic will never be good at defense

So when all else fails make up your own reality?

And I defaulted to the very stats you've used repeatedly, or the only ones that rate defense semi-reliably.

Opponents FG% in the restricted area the last two years:

Jokic 57.7, 62.9
KAT - 62.8, 64.1

One guy had defensive mastermind Thibs, the other had a system put in place that wasn't even designed for him to play center last year. There's a decent chance Joker goes back to being the upper-echelon defender he was in year 1 now that they've gone back. KAT will probably make a jump as well, but he has a long, long way to go to being even an average defender.

TPA Defensive points saved:

Jokic - 88 in 2070 minutes
KAT - 18 in 3030 minutes

So Covington is pretty easily the worst pick in the history of 2p2 drafts. I mean, you took him over Steph Curry. Wtf are you gonna do with that cap space?

The first 10 picks should have been the 10 best players in order regardless of salary.

I guess people are unsure

Spoiler alert: the Durant/kawhi/lebron/steph teams will be the best teams.

Reminds me of the people in the auction draft who waited until the 27th round to draft someone and thought they killed it when they got their franchise centerpiece Jeff Teague for $20

Correct. Don't know how this wasn't painfully obvious to everyone. It's the NBA

I'm gonna have to bow out of the draft, pairing with a euroland guy won't work for me.

I'll just sweat this one.

Correct

Getting > $20 million in value above actual salary on a 20-32MM contract >>>>>>>> saving $20MM by drafting a potential max type player on a rookie deal

is anyone else getting redirected to some shady spam when visiting spotrac?

in terms of the top picks, i agree with the idea that the first few picks should have just been the best players: imo kawhi is the #1 pick, 18mil for a potential mvp guy is great value, he's also attractive because he has a little upside to be even better. then durant, i can see the argument for labron/curry slipping slightly just because they are so expensive - but i think ultimately you just take the best guys in the nba

imo towns should've been the first 'bargain' drafted. i really like the embiid pick just because of upside. imo staps isn't good enough yet to get forgo drafting mvp candidates

agree with everyone else that covington is just nowhere near good enough to justify the top pick. tbh jokic is probably similar even tho he's a lot less bad

also i know it's too late, but i think in nba drafts it should always be abbbbbbbbbbbbb just because the top picks are always disproportionately more valuable. you really can't do enough to disadvantage the top picks iyam

We still live in a world where Towns > Jokic as a player despite overwhelming evidence to the contrary.

Jokic is closer to a top 5 player than a top 15 one, it's only a slight spew if he's making 20M per year. Towns was what maaaybe a top 20 guy last year? I know it's hard to believe because he's quietly become one of the best young players of all time, but the numbers, and more importantly his progression (4 straight years of MASSIVE, projection-busting jumps) don't lie.
