Playing in his last Open because he has reached the age of 60, Mark O'Meara was granted the honor of teeing off first. It turned out to be a horror. O'Meara, the 1998 champ at Royal Birkdale, sailed his first tee shot out of bounds in driving rain and ended up shooting 81. "My name is on my golf bag, I've won the Open Championship, I'm in the Hall of Fame, when you hit one straight right off the first tee out of bounds. . . my day was toast after that first tee shot. But I still had to play.'' O'Meara made an 8 on the hole and shot 43 for the first 9 holes. "At one point I felt like I was going to shoot 90 out there,'' he said. "You still play for your pride.''

Granted they did have 14.5 hours of tv coverage, far more than any other major.

They did not. But hey it's hard to complain too much when you get like 15 straight hours of coverage. Pretty awesome how they just rotate broadcast crews every 3 hours or so. Also I thought bones was pretty good.

Golf channel coverage has been outstanding (besides the couple hours of speefcam at 5am ). Maybe best ever from a golf junkie standpoint.

I don't understand the complaints about the coverage of Spieth. For one, they're showing a lot of other players too. More importantly though, it makes a lot of sense to show most of the shots from the winner.
