If you really think about it, it is not necessary to even have a table image for online poker. It is familiar to people, so they are used to it but the table is not necessary. In live play a table is there so everyone can sit around the dealer. In online poker (for serious players) a circle of players is not the best layout. The best layout is one in which you can get all the information you need as fast as possible. Also, I think that modders should think of each player pod as a larger block of area (for HUD Stats). After all, it is mostly serious multitablers who are buying your mods and pretty much all multitablers are using a HUD. Most rec players just use the standard themes.

agreed, that's where I was going with the concept mentioned a little earlier, except that my imagination ran away with me and the seat pods looked like stormtrooper helmets with several standard hud sections on the top and a large blank space below the name and stack for all the other stats a player might want. I might need to reel my imagination for the commercial variant

I couldn't agree more,
I thought the same, way back, and posted a mock up in the FTP thread but never went anywhere with it, or got any feedback.
I don't spend anything like the amount of time playing poker as back then, but I'd still buy something along these lines

Surely a circle of players is the best layout, as the players sit in a circle conceptually. The action moves in a circle, according to the rules of the game. Any graphic configuration that conflicts with this reality puts the player in conflict with reality, causing unnecessary stress.
But you could be onto something, concerning simplification. Instead of 2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9,10,J,Q,K,A, why not have 2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9,10,11,12,13, or even A,B,C,D,E,F,G,H,I,J,K,L,M?

I have actually thought of modding my cards to be 2-14, but I figured it wouldnt really provide much benefit to me. also, it would take some time to get used to a new layout, but it would become second nature eventually.

Most of these players also insist on TableNinja compatibility. This requires keeping the board cards in the middle.
I had a working 6 max layout, but abandoned the idea back in '09

But it is certainly do-able. Moving the Hero seat to the bottom and making it more like a 1st person shooter layout would be better than this one.

The action in poker moves in a circle; I don't think a linear representation of that is easier to process. However, it might be cool for someone to make a mod with customizable pods, i.e. each pod would be a box with player name and $, but the user could make the box bigger or smaller to accommodate his or her HUD.

I like the concept here.
I have a feeling that with the in-client hotkeys launching soon there will be limited uptake of new TN licenses and few renewals, and that would only be for the SNG Sensei and 'annoyances' fixes side of things. I'm more than happy to be wrong on that and not bashing TN, just my read on the customer feedback on the TN development over the past few years.
No reliance on screen-scraping, fixed bet control configs and layout dependencies will drive this style of modding forwards.
I definitely see a niche here and perhaps niche is the wrong term, this would certainly appeal to a majority of the mainstream grinders...well that's my gut feel at least.
re: linear vs cyclical action driven layouts - that is a matter of getting used to one or the other: after all, your eye will automatically scan to the left-hand side of the page once you reach the end of each sentence - that comes naturally now but is merely a matter of conditioning.
We're getting closer to what I've imagined for some time as 3rd party poker app nivarna: 3rd party app that loads multiple client tables into VM and then displays all your tables as a line in a main window. Whether graphical or text representation with all your chosen DB stats written into the display automatically. I was thinking along the lines of the Party stacking app but something that would accommodate 24+ tables enabling you to bring out tables for attention into several watch windows for closer inspection / big hands.
Anyway, still a pipe dream as I can only write a few basic scripts and am still fairly r.tarded at writing code...
