Any help in restoring this data and just basically plug it into a software that's 2nd best to Poker Journal? It seems Poker Income comes a distant 2nd to Poker Journal, but any software that restores the backup files from the PJ_0.sqlite file will do. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I feel like I've been spending way too much time and being stressed because of the 6k+ hours I have logged in here. I am not very familiar with coding and programming and don't know how excel comes into play. Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks for everyone's help in this thread.
I use Chrome as well but the SQLite Manager for FF is the best one I've used so that's why I picked that one. There's tons of these things even ones for Chrome (https://chrome.google.com/webstore/d...chdmojgg?hl=en). They're just not as good.

The reason I suggested using Excel is just so you have a place to keep your data until there is an update to PJ and you can still do interesting things with the data (filtering and what not).

Like I said at the end of my walkthrough. Once you can get a .CSV export of your data (I assumed it was the ZSESSION table) then you can probably import it into another app. I haven't tried this yet. I just wanted my database so I could start working on my own app. All of these other session trackers for iphone aren't very good.

I would suggest getting a .CSV of either your entire database or just that ZSESSION table and trying to import it into Poker Income (I would use a fresh install of the app bc it will probably write over your data that's already there.)

If that doesn't work either email your database to the developer of PJ and have him give you the .CSV that PJ would have exported (he already did for somebody in here earlier) or email the developers of Poker Income and ask them what tables they need from the PJ database to be able to import into their app.

I would try this myself but I'd have to buy one of them and I can't stomach paying for one of these other useless apps.

Plus I've already started making my own!

Cheers!

E-mail the sqlite file to Michael and he'll do the convert. That's what I did.

I have emailed Michael 72 hours ago and did not get a response. Is his current email address michael@megolden.com?

What will sending Michael the sqlite file for conversion accomplish? Will it allow the data to be restored in a different Poker Journal-like App? Will I be able to view it somehow and manually import all the datas elsewhere? I am going to send him the copy of the sqlite file since that is some forward progress. I just want to be able to restore my data and use an app that is more reliable. Is the next best poker app Poker Income? Obv, I prefer Poker Journal and would love for it to be eventually compatible with iOS 8, but I must also look ahead for life after PJ, if that's the case. :T

Re: Poker Journal App on iOS8 for iphone problems

when you guys look at your backup files in windows, do they appear on the desktop as CSV files or as HTML files? i'm concerned there's a problem with my most recent two backups.

That is, you know, if poker journal is ever a program on my phone i can use again.

I've been using RunGood for tracking and i think it's the best app available right now. Never had any issues when upgrading to ios 7 or ios 8. The developer posted this on reddit a few days ago, could be of use to those of you with recovered data.

Is there any reviews online of RunGood?

Can we transfer PJ data to this app?

Thanks.

Wondering the same thing. Would be worth the money if it's a good app and can extract the data from pj

The .CSV he will send back will be the backup file the app would have exported which in turn is what other app developers would have used to model how their app imports the data from PJ. You can always try my method from my earlier post and export just the ZSESSION table or even try the entire databse. If you don't have any data in your new app it's not going to hurt anything since you can just delete the app and reinstall it.

The backups for PJ have been .html files for a while now. You would have had to go into the Data Managment area and specifically exported your data .CSV to get that format. If/When the developer does get PJ working on iOS8 your html file backups will work just fine.

Re: Poker Journal App on iOS8 for iphone problems

sorry, forgot the link:

http://www.reddit.com/r/poker/commen...o_rungood_app/

Hi /r/poker,
We've been getting lots of questions lately about importing sessions into RunGood (due to users switching from other apps after updating to iOS 8), so we thought it'd be a good idea to address the issue publicly and put out a simple guide to importing sessions.

(If you haven't heard of RunGood, it's an iOS app with the best graphs, features and interface for tracking live poker results. RunGood is used by many pros, including Daniel Negreanu, Joe Hachem and Prahlad Friedman, but designed to be intuitive and suitable for players of all skill levels.)

The full version of RunGood includes an import feature for RunGood and Poker Journal sessions. Support for importing Poker Income sessions will also be added. But here we are going to show a simple method for importing any sessions into the RunGood app, even those from your own Excel spreadsheets:

1. Create a session in RunGood and export it. The session will be used as a template so be sure to fill in any detail fields you will need to import later.

2. Open the export CSV file in a spreadsheet application (such as Microsoft Excel), and copy the details from the sessions you wish to import into the appropriate columns. Make sure all details match the format used by the RunGood session.

3. Save the CSV file and email it as an attachment to yourself.

4. Open the email in the default Mail app. Tap and hold the attachment file, and choose "Open in RunGood" when the sharing options are shown.

This method will work for any sessions you'd like to import. Just be sure the details are in the correct format.

(If you are getting incorrect session dates/times after importing, go to Settings > General > International > Region Format and set it to "United States". Also set the time on your device to 12-hour format instead of 24-hour. You can revert to your original settings after importing the sessions. A proper fix will be in the next update.)

--

This worked for me.

Definitely not at his mercy. If you follow my post earlier you can get your data in .CSV format very easily from your itunes backup.

But I'm sure he's being bombarded with emails. I mean PJ is the most popular poker session app for iPhone by a long way.

If anybody wants me to help them out to get their .CSV data I can try to help out. And if anybody wants to send me the .CSV Michael sent so I can see the format, then I should be able to give you guys back to same format.

Just shoot me a pm

Oh, I didn't think it was possible since I had e-mailed the developers of the other poker apps with my sqlite and they weren't able to assist. One even said he would need to see the PJ source code.
From the start, I had seen all my data in the ZSESSION table, I just didn't see an easy way of getting that into a csv compatible with other apps. Thanks for offering your assistance for those who haven't already worked this issue out.

Harrythree is in the process of taking the sqlite file i obtained using the instruction provided in this thread, and converting it to an csv file. I have yet to hear from Michael Golden, and in the process of recovering my data and plugging it into RunGood Poker App with the help of Harrythree.

We debated on which app to replace Poker Journal, between Poker Income and RunGood. After the post on how to export the recovered Poker Journal data into RunGood, we decided to go with them. I want to give a personal thanks to Harrythree for helping me recover my data. It might be a simple task for him, but I know alot of people in this thread have spent countless hours and stressed trying to recover hundreds and thousands of hours of data logged into Poker Journal.

Thanks again harrythree and I hope you get some killer ideas for your own app in the near future (from suggestions and ideas from this thread) and with a gift of a full version of RunGood Poker App!

Re: Poker Journal App on iOS8 for iphone problems

Hi, I'm the developer of RunGood. I'd be happy to provide promo codes for the full version of RunGood to harrythree and/or other contributors to the thread. (Only the full version supports session import/export.)

Just email me at: James at RunGoodApp dot com
and include some way of identifying yourself.

(Not particularly familiar with forum rules regarding giveaways, so if they're not allowed, please let me know and I'll take this down.)

Also feel free to email me if you have any questions/suggestions about the app. I think most of our users would agree that we are very responsive.

great news

I tried the free version of Run Good Last night at the table and I like the interface better than PJ. Have you had success importing large database from PJ into RunGood? Can I use RunGood to filter results by location, and date ranges?

PM and email sent

Thanks

RunGood can import Poker Journal sessions in CSV format. The process is very simple (instructions within app). If you have a large number of sessions, just give the app some extra time and it should work fine.

Regarding filters, yes, you can filter by location or date range. You can also filter by tags or big blinds won, among many others. I believe RunGood has the most extensive (and easy to use) filters for any tracking app. I could be biased, but anyone can take the free version for a spin and decide for themselves.

I followed your instructions explaining how to extract the ZSESSION table (thank you btw!) but I'm having trouble making sense of the data in the .CSV. Can you help make some sense of what the different columns of numbers are? I'd love to be able to copy and paste the data into a format that can be imported into the RunGood app.

can you add completed sessions to run good? I have been keeping manual records in my notes, can you add these sessions to run good?

getting really sick and tired of this Poker Journal nonsense?

Can you maybe offer an incentive period or a deal to Poker Journal users? Half off or something?

Thanks.

I took the free version for a spin, and there's a couple of things (without having thoroughly gone through the app) that I think could be improved.

-In the session window, it lists your sessions, place, result, game, but you have to click on an actual session to see the duration of any particular session. It would be nice to see session lengths at a glace for all sessions.

-No toke button. Using the expenses field would require manually keeping track of tokes and entering them at the end of the session, or pressing 3 buttons to add a toke during a session. Most players don't consider tokes an expense, so it would be nice to have separate tokes and expenses to track.

-No standard deviation per hour and per session stats.

-When you tap cash game, you are taken immediately to buyin amount. That's okay, but if you have the location default setting set to on and press the Location button from the live screen and select your card room, it doesn't fill in all the fields (game/stake etc). In order for location to work, you have to hit edit and select your card room from that menu.

I realize that this is probably by design, in the event you are at your default room and want to play something else, but that could be edited by hitting Game and changing the game and stakes there, but when you hit Game there is no stakes setting, so you have to change stakes info from the Edit button, as well. I like easy default settings. Your hold cash game for last game played is very nice, but having to type in buyin amount and then Edit and select card room for defaults doesn't seem necessary.

If you're going to have to access Edit to get default game fields to display, then you might as well have another menu (once you click your card room) that will give you more than one game (e.g., click Bellagio and have a mixed limit default and a no limit default that you had set in the settings menu prior), so that you can select from more than one game you regularly play at that room. I think most players that would use an app to track live play would use the same buyin amount for their default games, so going to a buyin screen first seems superfluous when wishing to use a default.

-When you are at the home screen of the app (or when you tap out of the app) while you are in a live session, there is no indication on the home screen (or the app icon) that a live session is still being recorded. Having a little red 1 on the app icon and the In Play icon in the home screen would ensure you know you closed a completed session.

-In stats, I think you need to cut to the chase first; sessions played, cumulative results, hours played, average hourly results, average results per session, standard deviation per session/hour with a gross and net toggle button at the top for all stats. I get all that is there (except for stdv), but those stats are what everyone wants to lay their eyes on first. Scroll down for more nitty stats. It is nice that you can select and deselect which stats to display, though.

In the ZSESSION table you'll see tables with numbers for something like ZSTAKE. That number corresponds to the ZSTAKE table and is connected by the Z_PK number. The ZNAME column in the ZSTAKE table at Z_PK number row will tell you what the stake is for that session. Same goes for ZLOCATION, ZGAMETYPE, ZLIMITYPE, etc...

I've had a couple ppl pm me about converting data so I decided to just make a simple site where you will be able to upload your PJ .sqlite file and have it convert the data to the same formatted CSV file that PJ would have exported.

I've already got all the tables pulling the info together and returning it in the format needed. Now I just need to add a file uploader and a process for saving the file.

The format already works. Right now it just spits out the data on to a page and I copied that into a blank text doc, saved as CSV and it imported right into RunGood.

Already bought the domain convertpokerjournal.com so should be live in the next couple days!

I'll keep everyone posted in here.
