I'm sure the answer is itt, but before I read it...Upgraded my phone and used iTunes backup. The poker journal app transferred but with none of my data. I don't have access to the old phone. Can I recover it?

If you still have a backup at a point when your pokerjournal data was intact (iTunes will keep the most recent 3) you can use the following method to restore just the pokerjournal data:

1. Create a copy of your backups in another directory (since creating a new backup will overwrite an old one)
2. Create a new backup (the pokerjournal app should be installed and have some dummy data in)
3. Create a copy of the new backup in another directory in case something goes wrong
4. Download iphonebackupextractor and use it to locate the 2 pokerjournal files. Double clicking on each file will open explorer and select the file in the backup.
5. Copy the file then paste it into the new backup
6. Restore from the new backup

It did the trick for me.

I'm having some trouble importing my backup data into the now working PokerJournal.

Was able to restore all my old data fortunately using iphonebackupextractor, creating the .sqlite file. I also was able use the program that harry created to turn that into a csv file, so I can see all my data in excel.

From there I tried to follow some of the instructions in this thread including the one posted above without any luck. I'm sure it's really easy to do given I have the data in both formats, but I can't figure out how to get all that old data into PJ.

Could someone please give me step by step instructions on how to do that.

Something is stopping me putting in the URL but do a google search for "LCPDFR Development Blog restore iTunes" and go the first site that comes up. It describes the method I gave a summary of above.

Is there a way to select multiple filters in Poker Journal? Looks like you can in Rungood, like you can't in PJ, and not sure about Poker Income.

Click Filters on the upper left, hit the + on the next menu, select the filter you want, click Save, select another filter, click Save, rinse and repeat, then finally click Save again from the New Filter menu and name your new custom filter. If you don't think you'll be using that custom filter often, then select On The Fly and that will be the active On The Fly filter until you overwrite it by creating a new On The Fly filter.

sup guys, i still use pj and have iphone iOS 8.1.2, i was wondering how to export the data to excel tho. Im gonna be using it for tax purposes. thanks for any help on this topic ! (im very noobish so very simple instructions is best for me)

I went to the Apple Store to find out if I can go back to iOS 7 and they said there's no way of doing that.

I never updated to the new iOS on my iphone and Poker Journal has been working fine for me. Yesterday, though, it just stopped being able to open. I reset the phone a few times and it didn't work. It opens, lets me put in my password, then shuts down.

This happened to me on ios7 (was going to let others guinea pig ios8) when I set a filter. Finally, when the ios8 update to 8.1 came along that fixed the ios8 problems that others were having, I updated to that and it finally opened again. Make sure you do a backup and extraction from itunes explained in this thread just to be sure. I have not updated to the most recent ios8 released a little while ago, but it must work since no one is reporting problems.

Hi, I have a problem with Pokerjournal on my iPhone 4. Recently it's hard for me to open PJ because once I click on the app, it takes about 30 seconds and then I be sent back to my home iPhone menu. After restarting phone like 5 times it sometimes works again.

why does my iPhone have problems to start the app properly and is there anything I can do about that?

I had this same Problem. I fixed it by doing the following steps:

-Backup using iTunes, backup apps.
-Back up PJ data using the backup/restore to email me an html file.
-Delete the PJ app on your phone including all data.
-Sync apps using itunes and it will reinstall PJ from your backed up apps.
-click on PJ backup email link and save the backup, then restore from backup.

Everything came back as it was, and now my PJ opens in 1-2 seconds as opposed to 20 or 30.

FYI. I upgraded to iOS9 today and there are no issues for me.

Poker journal is no longer available in the US App Store. Do any other countries have the same restrictions? Curious

So I lost my poker journal to an iOS update like a year ago...any chance I can get those files back at all to import into new app?

I'm having the same issue with Poker Journal not opening running iOS 9.2 on iPhone 6s. When I open the app it takes 15-20 seconds on the splash screen then jumps to my iPhone's home screen. If I double click the home button to show what apps are running it shows Poker Journal in the sessions section of the cash game tab. If I click it the app it quickly seizes up then reverts to my iPhone homescreen. I back up my data on the first of the month but we're towards the end of December so I have nearly a full month's worth of data that isn't backed up.

Per your second step - what do you do if you can't click into backup/restore to email myself a file?

I still can't get Poker Journal to open on my phone. Anyone else having issues? I've emailed Michael Golden a few times but have yet to hear back. I was really hoping to compile a full year's worth of data and falling a couple weeks short due to an app crashing is giving me life tilt.

Must be just a 6s problem. I have 6+ and didn't have any issues after new update.

Okay so I just got it figured out. Thank God.

On December 17th I backed my phone up to my computer prior to downloading iOS 9.2. Everything worked fine. Fast forward to December 20th and I had force quit the app (double tap the home button, swiped up) mid-session being OCD about not having apps running. This is where my troubles began and Poker Journal wouldn't open. So I started manually logging my information in the notes section of my phone. I went to the Apple Store Genius Bar and they weren't helpful other than saying "yes, you have a problem but because it's a third party app we can't do anything". I then attempted to restore my phone from the December 17th backup and the app still wouldn't open. I sent Michael Golden several emails but never heard back (absurd that for an app, best in its class, costing >$10 we can't get communication, updates, or an interface like Mint.com where there is accessibility from the web to your data). Anyways fast forward to today. I deleted the app from my phone, re-downloaded it from the app store and it opened! I then restored my phone from the December 17th backup on my computer and everything works. Went thru and manually entered the last 1.5 weeks worth of data and all is right in the world. Definitely had a my heart skip a beat with ~2000 hours logged this year but now I can sleep easy.
