I am in the same boat as everyone else in this thread... countless hours logged in, lost data, iOS 8 update frozen and crashed, etc. If anyone hears anything or have any updates, please share in this thread. Like many here, I am annoyed and stressed over the data loss and probably spent close to 30 hours trying to resolve this issue.

I found a friend with ios7. I paid them $13 to install PJ, mailed them a backup, and then did a CSV export from their device.

Still can't get Poker Income loaded. Any advice?

btw if ur still on ios8 and have the PJ endless install thing. what worked for me was going back to the app store and clicking the stop button that appears while apps are downloading (what previously looked like a cloud).

same issues.....ugh (except even worse as I have not did any backups to my computer or to Icloud. I did throw a pj backup to my email before I tried downloaded ios8 so hopefully I can recover it all)

Thanks for this. Got iphone 6 today and had tons of problems, but eventually every app installed except PJ. Got stuck on install like everyone else said, and the battery drained so fast it seemed like something was very wrong. Now I see what it was from this thread. At least the advice above has stopped it from continuously trying to install and killing the battery.

Yep, I found that out also.

my battery is still draining super fast actually. i was at like 80% when i went to the casino around 9pm and by 11:15 i was almost out of power and hadn't used it more than normal. And im not one of those grinders who sits there watching movies and sht on their phone at the table.

i don't know if it's related to the PJ issue or if it's the update in general, but it's def draining super fast (this is an iphone 5s in good condition purchased about 9 months ago). It's also super hot, as if the cpu is running at 100% all the time :/ I'm not sure if it's ironic or serendipitous, but this update did include a new tab in settings via general -> usage -> battery usage, which generates a list of what has been using up your battery. Mine says txts and home/lock screen? Seems very odd to me.

Seriously this guy needs to either prepare for these updates or at least warn his customers. Apparently this isn't the first time it's happened and this is pretty unacceptable imo.

I think the only option for those that upgraded to iOS 8 is to wait. As soon as he updates Poker Journal (hopefully soon) we can restore our device from an iCloud backup to keep the PJ data intact.

Developer reached back out. He is working with apple on what could possibly be going on. It doesn't appear to be an issue with Poker Journal's code.

I am a software engineer and have worked with apple before, and this rings true to me. There's no way Apple would let an app through their testing process that would hang up installation. It shouldn't even be possible for ANY app to do that.

Anyhow, that's the latest.

fwiw I had/have no problems with PJ Lite on my IPhone 5 upgrading to iOS 8 but I literally only have 1 session in it so far.

PJ lite has no issues.

i'm not trying to point the blame i just want this fixed - but it seems odd that it could have nothing to do with the code, yet this is not the first time this has happened with an ios update?

also, to be fair, i'm no software engineer.

I think what is happening is that iOS is having trouble updating apps or finishing install, and it's locked in some loop trying to do it.

In my case I had the entire install freeze at beginning and then was forced to do a full restore, which worked but when I tried to re setup my 5s from last backup it had tons of trouble getting apps re-installed correctly. So my phone would get hot whenever it was plugged into my Mac as iTunes was trying (and failing) for hours on end to finish the sync from the reinstall. I finally connected to iTunes manually, deleted the stuck apps from downloading, which somehow caused them all to download immediately and correctly.

And I made the mistake of not backing up before installing, but when the apps reinstalled they all seemed to have the correct data, including PokerIncome which is what I've been using this year.

If you are reading this thread, before you install and it's too late like it might be for some of these problems, I recommend doing the following.

a) backup your poker sessions, I do this weekly, but you should do it at least monthly. Your session tracking app should be able to mail a full copy of your sessions to your email account, just file it somewhere safe. If your session data is important to you, never trust an app on any phone or pc, the first time your phone/pc gets wiped you'll lose it all.

b) backup any other important apps and your iPhone manually to iTunes if possible.

c) Don't turn on any new features, esp. the iCloud disk one the installer asks you about, until the install is complete and working well for you. Don't complicate the install process.

36 hours of restoring after I started I had everything back except for Poker Journal - it will still trying. This sucks that I've lost 4+ years of Journals but Oh Well.

Before you upgrade to IOS8 be sure to remove the app and export any data from it that you want.

Everything the person above stated about Michael's response is true. Got the same response. As far as battery drain, I found the issue (5s here). Go to Settings > General > Background App Refresh. Turn it off. Problem solved.

I think once Poker Journal gets fixed, all of our data should be there right?

Last time IOS 7 came out, Poker Journal was down for over one month.

Did everybody still have their data after that glitch?

Logging out of Itunes app store at least stops the perpetual Installing, burning battery and smoking hot phone.

Looking forward to an iOS8 compatibility fix ASAP.

I too spent the majority of my weekend trying to troubleshoot my problematic iPhone 6 and Poker Journal restoration before finding this thread.

I don't have a solution as far as getting PJ to work or recovering my old data but for those of you who are annoyed by the app hanging at the 99% mark during installation, here's another fix for that I haven't seen mentioned yet (EDIT: I probably should have read the post right above this one lol):

Go to Settings -> iTunes & App Store -> Apple ID -> Sign Out

This will cancel the installation, keeping your battery from being drained. You can sign back in without a problem.

I still had more battery burn after my last post and finally checked the (new) battery usage settings and found it was an iOS 8 task called "Backup and Restore". It seemed to finish on its own, but logging out of iTunes and iCloud is probably a reasonable way to try to fix it.

And again to make it clear, I don't think Michael is a fault here. I am not using PJ, and it happened with about a dozen different apps I have. It's some sort of restore glitch with iOS 8, apps aren't even involved in the process AFAIK. When it clears for you I will bet you find all your PokerJournal data intact.

But once again to make it clearer, don't refer to your saved session data as "important" or a "huge loss" if you haven't backed them up in years, because you sure didn't treat them that way. Treat them as important in the future by backing them up regularly, weekly or at least daily.

Were any of you able to get the iPhone properly synced through iTunes?

I'm having the same problem many in this thread are. I'm going to wait for the developer to put up out a patch. My question/problem is I stupidly didn't back up my data before upgrading my iOS, will I lose all that data I have?

Same problem here, Ios 8 crashed my whole phone, and I wasn't backed up properly and lost everything. Just wanted to sub here to check results. At least now I have another reason to buy the new Iphone. Hope all poker data isn't lost, but I'm pretty sure it will be, right?
