ongame software tortures my harddrive

i had this problem with the pokerroom client and the eurobetpoker client (both ongame network, so basically the same software):

after each played hand it writes statistics to a file (using sqlite database). this writing is accompanied by enormous harddrive noise for about three seconds. it sounds like it would write a ton of data. when i multitable, it makes me go insane and i fear my harddisk will break after just a few weeks of this.

somehow the problem was not always there, when i reinstalled it earlier (a few months ago) it went away (only very moderate harddisk noise, like one would expect). but recently i installed windows and the poker client from scratch and now the noise is back. i can't get rid of it by reinstalling this time...

anybody knows what might be the problem?
any help would be greatly appreciated.

Its the same for me - makes it difficult to play there

I tried setting PT to import hands every 5 minutes, 3 minutes , 1 minute etc but that did not make any difference

I don't have this problem but you guys could try emailing Ongame about the software issue. Tell them it's making you not want to play there. We need more people telling Ongame that their software sucks. It's amazing how horrible it is compared to every other site out there.

Re: ongame software tortures my harddrive

2-part solution,

Firstly defrag your harddrive often, the ongame handhistory DB gets ridiculously fragmented, several thousands fragments makes retrieval slow.

Secondly, either start a new database in the client or reset the current one with PT when you reach 5k hands or so.

Hope this helps

I agree. Reset the database in PT or start a new database in PT.

4thstreetpete:
i have e-mailed support about the software - but i doubt anything will change...

chris / paul:
fragmentation isn't an issue, the software and database are new and clean.
also the problem isn't PT related (i use pokeroffice btw), it's the poker-clients own statistcs writing function (using sqlite). it doesn't matter if i have pokeroffice running or not.

but thanks for the hints nonetheless

Re: ongame software tortures my harddrive

Hi Forum,

Whenever a technical issue like the one discussed above is brought up on 2+2 it gets picked up and is reported directly to the head of development.

Since our Ombudsman Service is yet to have a proper "home" (under construction) it is a bit hard for us to provide feedback on them though. Once everything is set-up the distance between you the players and them the actual developers will shrink to being almost a direct input.

We, the Ombudsmen, are greatly appreciative of your willingness to dicuss technical oddities so we can bring them forward.

This might be the dumbest suggestion ever, and for this particular "bug" we will attempt to provide a proper answer from the devs once we have it, but does it help if the internal stats functionality is turned off?

For now,

The Ombudsman

Re: ongame software tortures my harddrive

hi ongameclassic

that's good news.

about turning off the internal stats function:
it doesn't work. the tick in front of "Enable Statistics" won't disappear.

when i quickly looked at some of the configuration files i noticed that there seems to be an "old" and a "new" statistics functionality. might the new one have introduced this issue?

looking forward to a solution / update,

fingerswinger

Great input Fingerswinger and ADK. Devs always want additional information in order to be able to more easily to track down the problem. This should certainly do the trick.

Re: ongame software tortures my harddrive

OngameClassic,

When we be able to suggest additional or improved functionality for the Ongame software? I'm sure myself and others have a huge list of items that would make the poker room much better:

eg:
- Hand histories for Sit N Gos and Tournaments stored on the local HD
- Rebuying into cash games without having to sit out to access the cashier
- to easy to accidentally click the 'Leave' button or 'X', which has no confirmation
- to resource intensive
- bets sometimes 'graphically' remain on the table after a hand is finished and into the next hand making it confusing to work out the action

Thank you

Re: ongame software tortures my harddrive

Hi PaulG,

Once the Ombudsman Service has a permanent home as previously described, discussing features, enhancements and even mods and scripts will become an important part of that service.

Then we will also be able to better present to the poker playing community lists of the things we think needs improving and allow anyone interested in such topics to have say through polls, competitions etc.

Believe me, we are not holed up here thinking we have developed the software of all poker software for our partners. Inventiveness, for good and bad, has always been a key feature in the things we are designing for the future, but for us it is also about looking back and pick up the bits that should have been implemented long ago.

More information about this service will surface as we come closer to estimating a proper launch date.

For now, you can always reach Ongame Network by e-mailing ombudsman@ongamenetwork. Just keep in mind that we do not deal directly with any player-related matters and only bring such matters that we find urgent through to our partners and make sure they abide by the customer service standards we require.

Cheers,

The Ombudsman

Re: ongame software tortures my harddrive

I'm not convinced that disabling statistics has any positive effect on this problem. Today I swithced stats off before starting to play, and the client was even more sluggish than usually.

The more tables, the worse it gets. I can just barely play 4 tables now, as before playing even 6 was no problem at all. Nowadays adding a 5th table practically freezes the client.

I hope this gets fixed soon, as it makes playing long sessions quite uncomfortable.

Re: ongame software tortures my harddrive

My main problem with Ongame software is that it's such a huge resource hog. (And it's got nothing to do with the statistics function, I've tried turning it off but the software is still a resource hog.) On my old computer this would result in lags and other problems, my current computer can mostly handle it, but its still a major annoyance with the fan going full throttle.

I also really hate having to sit out to rebuy. There's loads of other smaller problems with the software, but if Ongame could fix the sit out to rebuy and the resource issue it would make a world of difference.
