Looking for LH software that simulates playing? (Wilson Turbo won't run on my new comp)
I've been away from poker as well as this forum for years, but now returning to the game. Looking for software that simulates playing. Wilson Turbo says their software doesn't work on my version of Windows 7 (maybe there is better poker software out there anyway...don't know). My research is not turning up much on Limit Hold'em. It seems Acespade has something available, so I would like to get some feedback here on their product or any other Limit simulators, assuming there are any others.
By the way, it's important that I don't have to be "on-line" to use the software. I'm not really looking for a lot of "bells and whistles" such as a lot of analysis, but being able to change the style of players, i.e. tight, loose, etc., would be a nice feature to have, though. I basically just need to see a lot of hands at my own pace so I can work on all the concepts that I've written down from the many Limit books I've been reading for the past few months. Thanks very much!!
By the way, I have the Windows 7 Home Version.

i'm not sure if it is exactly what you are looking for, but Ace Poker Drills has a Limit feature. It is made by the same people that put out Leakbuster.
It has a Preflop trainer, an equity trainer, and an odds outs trainer. and also comes with a cool equity calculator. It is a cool program, and i think they have a free trial.

You might be able to get Wilson software working using a virtual machine with XP installed on it (the reason it doesn't work in Windows 7 is because the code is 16bit and Windows 7 did away with the ability to execute 16bit code).

Thanks Juk! In order for me to use the "virtual" route for Wilson, I have to upgrade to Windows 7 Professional version, which cost $200.00.

I'll look into that, Goathair, especially since I still haven't heard back from Acespade on whether their software will work on my laptop. Thanks!

LOL, yeah I always have rose tinted memories of old 8/16bit games and then when I try and go back to them (particularly "3D" games like flight sims and racing games) I end up with a rude awakening!
But on the other side of things, at least old games had some variety/innovation and they didn't just churn out the same old "proven formula" **** every year like they do now... It's also interesting to look at the lifetime of a popular 8/16bit machine and see how much better the game programmers got at utilizing the capabilities over 5+ years (the Amiga being the best example of this) - this is a stark contrast to games programmers of today who just rely on newer/better/faster hardware coming out each year.

If you still have a copy of XP (or even 98/95) then you could use VirtualBox for free.

not sure what you are trying to do, but wilson's software is completely useless for doing any kind of analysis that would apply to the real world. the AI is a joke. what are your goals? i can probably give you some better alternatives.

Personally, I'm looking for anything Hold'em. From FL HUHU to FR NL, with all points in between. This may require different packages? Goals are to provide something close to real-world practice against different player types. Leaks analysis would be nice as well.
And something that would fix the broken downspout on my house would be good too.

for ring NL http://www.holygrailofpoker.com/ is good. i think it's a fairly realistic approximation of small stakes online play, and the AI is solid.
unfortunately for FL the best AI of all (sonia on paradimepoker) is no longer available to play, and i believe poker academy pro (through which you could play polaris) is also out of business. if you want to learn FL, however, there are many good videos on just about all the major training sites (especially cardrunners and deucescracked). as for actual play, online games have gotten so tough that you can .50/1.00 (and possibly lower) and be confident that you are playing tougher opponents than you will find in your local $20/$40 casino game. if you are looking for something theoretical, nothing beats phil newall's recent book "the intelligent poker player"

Yeah HGOP is underrated but NL only. Pokersoftware.com lists like dozens of similar programs though and I am sure you could find something that does limit there

Thanks - I'll look at HGOP. Too bad about the FL side - that's where almost all of my play is at the moment (though a couple of steps lower than .50/1).
+1 on The Intelligent Poker Player - I'm currently reading it.

thanks for the recommendation for the HGOP. Seems pretty cool, gonna do the trial.
Beeker, you mentioned Leak software, have you tried Leakbuster?
