When joining a table, if seated with the button on your immediate right, you are usually asked to "buy the button" - to post both the large and small blinds - before you can join the game. If you are seated anywhere else, you are usually asked to post the large blind before you can join the game.

Is it fair for a software application to force you to post these blinds, or must the player be given the option of waiting for the large blind to come to them? Alternatively, can the requirement to post the blinds on joining be removed entirely? I ask because I am implementing a minimalistic server, and I need to know what functionality I can remove without annoying my players.

Additionally, what happens if you join between the large blind and the small blind? It seems to me that this would result in the player to your left being required to post the large blind twice in a row, or in you being skipped by the small blind - both situations being unfair. How is this handled?
