I'm a new MAC owner that will NEVER go back to PC. I'll just wait patiently for someone to develop this software.

I never understood this sort of attitude towards any given OS. Windows is useful in some situations and OS X in others. These days Mac's are just PC's with a pretty looking OS and pretty packaging.

I prefer OS X to Windows these days, but there many things I prefer about windows. *shrug* It's a wash, really.

Re: Hold'em Manager/Poker Tracker for Mac?

There are any number of reasons for wanting to run Windows in a Virtual Machine on a Mac. I run win2k in a Parallels VM. The only thing that runs in that VM is poker stuff: Full Tilt, Pokerstars, PokerTracker, PTO, Holdem Manager, Pokerstove, StoxEV, SNGWiz, SNG End Game Tools, etc.

Whenever some piece of software wants to upgrade I make a clone of the VM and do the upgrade in that clone. If there's a problem with the upgrade, I can easily back out to the previous VM instance. If I want to test a PT3 or HEM beta, then I clone and test. If I want to checkpoint / backup my VM, then I clone my VM and save it to DVD. I wouldn't want it any other way.

If you're uneasy with poker client software monitoring your browsing -- looking at cookie files and history files, etc -- or checking what apps you're running, then you browse on the mac. The only time I run a browser on the Win VM is to download updates for the above mentioned poker software. All other net activity takes place in OS X.

is VMWare Fusion better than Parallels?

and for all the mac users who aren't biting the bullet and getting Holdem Manager or Poker Tracker and figuring out a way to run windows on their mac..

its so -ev...

i have a mac..... i just bought HEM... and its a whole new world... i hope if HEM makes a mac version i can switch for free or a nominal fee...

i mean i barely know what is going on with it...
but when you see somebody with a super low VPIP...
you can pretty much steal their blinds AT WILL...
i play 25NL... 80 bucks is what... 325 big blinds...
i guarantee you that this program will pay for itself JUST by stealing 325 big blinds with it....

i mean there is a reason that pretty much every good player at the higher limits online using HEM or PT3....

I think it's a religious issue. I use Parallels because I'm an early adopter and I think it was the first VM out when Apple went to the Intel chip. From what I've read functionality and performance between the two are essentially similar. Pick one and don't look back.

I have both PT3 and HEm, and for me PokerTracker3 works better. I think it's because HEM seems to be more "flashy" in it's look and feel, which uses more graphics, and graphics strains a VM. But I may be wrong. People swear by HEM though, especially for ring games (I play tournies), and others say they have no problem with HEM in a VM, so go figure.

I have both and they both work fine. The latest version of Parallels is a bit faster than the current version of vmware but apart from that there's very little difference. They both have demos so you can try before you buy.

Holdem Manager on Mac using VMWare or Parallels?

Hey everyone,

I've got a Mac and I tried running holdem manager on my bootcamp and I can't seem to play more than an hour without the computer crashing. I have 1gb for my mac partition and 1gb for my pc. I was thinking about how to solve this problem, and has anyone run holdem manager via VMware or Parallels?

I think that would be a lot easier bc the computer could dedicate the entire 2gb to the holdem manager which wouldn't allow it to crash.

Let me know if you guys have done so. Thanks!

q for all:

how many tables can you reliably run in a VM (not bootcamp) with pt3 and a hud going?

i dont really want to buy a mac and run bootcamp. but if i can only 4 table in VM before the comp lags then that is pretty sucky

It's better at some things, and Parallels is better at others. If you're really interested there are bound to be some good discussions on this topic at any one of the larger Mac based forums.

If you have the money (and can, I dunno the specs of your Mac nor what the max amount of ram it can handle is) put more ram in the machine.

I can play 20 tables on Stars with VMware fusion and HoldemManager+HUD running with no problems on my Macbook Pro. In full screen mode, I don't notice the difference between running it in a VM and running it in bootcamp. In unity mode, there's a tiny bit of lag, but still playable. One thing I would recommend is to upgrade to 4gb of ram (not from Apple - way too expensive).

Like all Apple hardware, unfortunately.
