That is a hell of a lot of traffic for a simple hand strength calculator

FT seems to be hosted out of a datacenter in north america on a mohawk indian reservation.
Pretty much they all are. it is the KGC server farm. See BBV threads on Absolute superusers for much details.

What about super users who are not connected with AP/UB?

How tough would it be to create a 'super user' Calculatem client, if you owned that company?

If they are chattering in realtime, and you own the company - no problem -they could easily make a superuser for anywhere their clients support

Thing is, it could only be used to terrorize micro / maybe mid limit games - not the High stakes HU games NioNio was (allegedly) superusing on UB - I'd think it very unlikely the players losing unusually in the HSNL forum were using any of these simple calculator apps.

A worrying possibility indeed.

sorry to all who were waiting for results. i gave up a while ago trying to decrypt the traffic from this program. it was taking too much of my time and i decided i had better things devote my energies to.

just uninstall it if you've got it and clean out your registry.

Let me see if I understand:

You guys defend your personal right to datamine to the death even when a site doesn't want you to do so, but when you merely suspect a bit of freeware to do the same then you freak out.

Sorry to dissapoint, but there is no hand details being passed back. There is simply a http request passed every 20 seconds that consists of:

Code:
GET http://api.mutatum.net/gateway/gateway.inc.php?instr=handsPlayed&rk=FFCGHQHHTHEETF8SW&comp=2 HTTP/1.0
User-Agent: TCValidator
Host: api.mutatum.net
Pragma: no-cache
This is part of the "hand counting" system (you get it unlocked after 500 hands).... i've played thousands, so I don't see why it's necessary...

[paranoia]
the only good reason to waste that kind of bandwidth is to maintain a connection so that the server can suddenly return a special code (other than "OK" which is the standard reply) ..... and then it would be possible for all your most paranoid fears to come true.

kinda like a sleeper agent
[/paranoia]

this much i can tell you - it's not sending any hand history right now. but then as a true paranoid would tell you: that's because they know we're watching.

it's also worth noting that they don't encrypt or pack or otherwise obsficate their application to prevent analysis or decompiling. if they are hiding even the *capability* of being able to do something like has been suggested, it would be very easy to prove.

if you care - it's a 5 minute job to put together a PHP script that responds with the required:

Code:
HTTP/1.0 200 OK
Date: Tue, 31 Mar 2009 03:36:52 GMT
Server: Apache/2.0.52 (CentOS)
X-Powered-By: PHP/5.2.5
Content-Length: 2
Content-Type: text/html; charset=UTF-8
X-Cache: MISS from localhost
Connection: close

OK
and change your "hosts" file to direct the traffic to your own php server that returns "OK"

i'll even write it for you and host it, and if it starts sending me all your hole cards, i'll let you know.

maybe.

I have been looking at holdem genius and possibly purchasing in hopes of helping my ability to quickly figure out pot odds, outs, etc. Has anyone tried out this software? Is it really still allowed at PS and FTP???

A-ha that is why every time I treid to download poker edge software, which happens to be another example of one of those universal datamining sites (this was before their use was banned) I could not figure out why my AVG kept freaking out telling me I was downloading a trojan horse virus. Thanks for your imput and please email me when u find out more results.

You can still use the poker edge website, but you'd want to do it from another computer / virtual machine, as some sites check your web history.

Personally I only use it when I bump into someone who says they play a lot at xyz limits, and I want to see if they're full of ****.

Also it amuses me to lookup durrrr.

End User agrees: This Software may automatically check for upgrades and improvements while being used online. Also, this Software may connect End User's computer to the Holdem Genius server in order to (1) obtain card location information on the card rooms so auto-read can work, (2) for purposes of software fraud prevention, and (3) to collect data on your opponents. While doing so, it uses the registration code combined with your hard drive ID to log in. Holdem Genius will not collect data on End User's cards.
Texas Calculatem, Calculatem Pro, Holdem Genius, Sit and Go Shark, Poker Crusher and Poker Edge all come from the same company. In further research I found Poker Crusher is just a skin of Poker Edge. The same company selling Calculatem is also selling blatantly prohibited software(Poker Crusher and Poker Edge). Beware.

Also beware the above poster telling you it's ok to use prohibited software.

PS Kudos to BigBlack for originally looking into this!

I'm thinking of using this software. This thread is very old, i was wondering if this software has been updated and actually works now? As I can't find any new un-affiliated reviews, a lot of old reviews around 2008-2010 claimed it wasn't really working.
