Club Vacationing in Las Vegas, would like to play LO8.

Good day O8 forum!

I'm visting Las Vegas for the first time in July, and while I have an itenerary with the family and all, I will be sure to have some time set aside to play some cards!

I used to play on Full Tilt, and while most of my meager profits came from NLHE STTs, I did enjoy Omaha 8 (pot limit and fixed) a lot.

I'm looking to try some low limit Omaha 8. I've never played live before. Looking on allvegaspoker.com I see a 3/6 at Sam's Town and Sante Fe Station, and two 4/8's listed, as well as two $75 tournaments at The Orleans.

Does anyone know how accurate this information is or where I should go for some friendly 3/6 or 4/8? Also, are there any ettiquite concerns specific to LO8?

If I do find a game, what should I expect? A group of five regulars chopping up blinds? A group of retirees playing only A23X? I'm certainly a novice, but I could be much worse I suppose. I would assume the rake is attrocious in a low limit live split pot game, but I'm just looking to have some fun playing a neat form of poker rather than try to have my poker playing pay for the trip.

I've been out there post-WSOP the last two summers, so I'll chime in.
You can reliably locate a 4/8 game at the Venetian. That game and the Orleans run regularly and have a mix of retirees and tourists. Don't assume the retirees are only playing A2xx hands, though. The Orleans tournaments are difficult with the blind structures, and you're forced to gambool pretty quickly, but that's what you get for $75, I suppose. Have fun!

When I go to Las Vegas in July, I'll try the Venetian and the Orleans. Both of those places probably will have some low limit Omaha-8. There are some other nice places in Las Vegas where I've played Omaha-8, but those two are sure things.

Not that I know of. I think the main thing with etiquette is to be nice to other people and treat them as you'd like to be treated. That seems to work for any card table in a casino. I toke the dealer when I win a pot, but that's not mandatory. I also sometimes toke the floor manager. And, of course you tip for any service.

Depends, I guess. Depends on where you are and what time of day or night. There tend to be more regulars during the day and more tourists at night. FRGCardinal has given you a good response. (I agree with him).

Yes, the rake is atrocious, but if you play well you can beat the rake long term and if you're lucky you can beat the rake short term.

I think that's a wise attitude. Have fun. Let us know how it goes.

Some people don't really cover their hands while looking at their cards. Don't peek at what they have, even though they really should be guarding their cards better.

When you bet/call/raise, stack your chips instead of messily betting them all over the place. Since its a split pot game, the dealer has to chop the pot and this makes it easier for them.

As mentioned you will find games at Orleans and Venetian. Both are 4/8 with half kill. I think it' noteworthy that the game at Venetian plays bigger though because the half kill comes into play at $40 instead of $60 at Orleans. Actual amounts may be not 100% accurate, not sure if I remember correctly, but it's definitely quite a difference.
Besides that I found the game at Venetian tougher, but only played a couple of times at both venues.
Enjoy your trip!

And ffs don't pick up your cards and bring them way off the table to look at them. This isn't specific to LO8, but it seems to happen there way more than in HE. It's either angleshooters trying to get people to act out of turn, or more commonly old people with bad vision who can't see four cards that far away.
