Using Solid BR Management... how can I eventually play live Mixed Games? Using Solid BR Management... how can I eventually play live Mixed Games?

Hey, so I really want to start playing Mixed Games live BUT I am not rolled for them yet. Many of the buyins are $300 and above and with variance I don't want to risk it. I feel my skill level is up there with the players, but simply not rolled for it.

How did the big names on here start out? Did you just take a shot? Played lots of satties to get in? Found cheaper buyins?

I'm really hoping to play the $300s and above one day, and would appreciate advice from players that went through this experience.

Brick and mortar casino poker rooms abound with poker bums... guys who can probably play poker better than I can, but who are always broke and looking for a stake.

Solid bank roll management is a way to avoid that sorry fate. But first you have to be good enough to consistently beat your opponents... and if you're that good, then you already can afford the $300 buy-in.

When you are good enough to be able to afford the $300 buy-in, then you need to be lucky enough to win a few times. And then at that point you can hedge your losses by getting a backer who is willing to invest in you without insisting on the lion's share of the proceeds.

'Til then, keep playing and improving.

Thanks Buzz! Always good advice.

Looking around to see if any good $50-$150 Mixed Games in my area. Hoping to combine my tourney and mixed game knowledge. Think if I can combine insights from tourney books + 08 I would be able to hold my own.

Apparently Deppen is the most up to date book for 08? Read most of it... but seems outdated. Don't remember reading anything about tournaments in it. Are there any Tourney 08 books?

Not that I know of.

Some of the posters here have successful Omaha-8 tournament experience.

Bankroll management is a little different online and live. Online, maybe you play $10 tournaments and have a 100 buy-in roll or whatever. Trying to apply that to live mixed game tournaments might not make a lot of sense, depending on where you live there probably won't be 100 $300 mixed game tournaments in the next 10 years.

I am pretty sure I am rolled for them, but some BR Management articles would say I'd need an insane BR to be protected.

What do you guys feel is a good roll to comfortably play $200 mixed game live tournies?

Live mixed games are generally fixed limit. With a $300 buyin this would be a 30/60 right?

Keep in mind that a "buyin" in limit games doesn't have the same meaning as in a big bet game. Measure your bankroll in bets. You'll generally want several hundred, depending on what games are in the mix.

This confused me at first as well, but since OP mentioned "satties" (satellites), I'm pretty sure he is talking about tournaments, not cash games.

Depends on few things...

- how good you are (honestly)
- how often you play
- structure of tournament (pretty sure you are talking mtt's)
- your definition of comfortable (do you have extra income coming in?)

In general, I would want around a 5k roll to feel "comfortable"

If you have a real job you don't need a BR. If you have the money to lose just get it in there in play. If you lose just try again some other time. Take off those imaginary handcuffs imo
