Question Calculating Low Hand Question Calculating Low Hand

Played a hand just now online where the board at showdown read:

3672J

My hand: 295A

I thought that making a low hand was the same as a high hand: use at least two cards in your hand to make the best 5 card combo.

So why is my low here not A2367

???

Use the five and the ace from your hand.

Your low is 6532A, read 65321.

I mean it's kind of common sense, if u did it the way you are thinking then you would win low 100% of the time u get dealt a2

Thank you for the response.

I know I sound like an idiot here (apologies), but I'd also like to understand why I cannot use the A and 2 in my hand, since there are three other ranks below 9 on the board that are not an A or a 2.

Is it correct to say then that the presence of a rank on the board disqualifies you from using it from your own low hand?

no - if you have a bare A2 on a 2345x board for example, then you can obv use the two in your hand for a wheel each way. the point is that you use the cards that give you the best hand - and a seven low isn't as good as a six low
