Re: Poker vernacular

This thread is the best source for poker vernacular as it relates to O8 (although I'm sure we can handle non O8 phraseology as well.

Open is pretty much a raise. Open-fold is only used to differentiate it from fold as kind of a joke or in a weird instance, IMO.

An player who exhibits aggression at seemingly unpredictable occasions. Derives from definition 2 here, and in turn from spastic:

Talking about statistical anomalies, this is still my favorite hand ever.
The replay of that hand makes the beat even worse as wingman seems to only hold 35 in his hand.

Slang for "spastic" is my guess.

I think of someone who is truly spastic as suffering from brain disorder or cerebral palsy and lacking normal muscle control.

Re: Poker vernacular

I always wondered what whipsaw meant. I knew it was happening to me but I didn't know the term.

What are "middle rundown cards"? Is that when you hold 78910 or 6789?

I take it it should it be 789T?

Or is the 10 too high to be considered "middle"

"Whipsaw" means you're in the middle, getting raised and re-raised as the betting is capped by two or three opponents. It can involve Hero putting in the first two bets one at a time before facing a double bet.

"Middle runddown cards" are more than one middle card in sequence.
Middle cards are nines, eights, sevens, and may also include tens that are not connected to higher cards and sixes that are not connected to lower cards.
Middle cards are generally undesirable in starting hands in high low split games at a full table. (In general, high cards have a better chance of winning for high and wheel cards have a better chance of winning for low).

T987 and 9876 are middle rundown hands.

should be T, and it's not too high...
i'd say 4567 to 789T is middling and should be avoided.
3456 and 89TJ are very marginal.
2345 and 9TJQ are generally very playable.
