Think he just flies in for the $50k owing to his extremely busy schedule.

Kinda sucks if only planning to go for 10 days or so. Too spread out. Though both PLO8s in a week is good. Be much better for attendance if these 2 events were in middle of the series

Thoughts on lowering the $10K-LO8 Championship to $5K and the $5k-PLO8 to $3K?

Re: Omaha 8 at the 2012 WSOP

I like lowering both those tourneys to gather more entries in both. The increase in entries will mostly be players who are less EV overall than the ones who would normally pony up the 5k and 10k imo. I am now gonna play the O8 championship for the first time since John won in 2007. Some of the 1500 events now start with a 25/25 level, which is new I think, and look at the 5k O8 with first 4 hours at 100/200 blinds. Interesting

Like the reduction of both the $10k and $5k for same reasons as above. Not sure if i'll make it this year but might try and come out for both pl ones as i missed them last year going for the earlier ones. Was hoping they might have added a big O mtt but not to be

5K PLO8 going to 3K is Meh. There was a good increase in attendance last year. I would be more happy if it was 3K and they kept it in the same week as the $1500 PLO8 which would really help attendance.

I'll play both PLO8 anyways probably won't play the 5K O8 since i need to take 2 weeks off to play the PLO8.

The 25/25 level has been standard in 1k/1.5k events for a couple years at least.

The bigger buyin limit structures (10k HORSE/5k limit games including O8) actually look better for those events though since the 15k starting @ 200/400 limit means 37.5 big bets for 4 levels (rather than 30k starting with 75/60/50/37.5 big bets).
IMO, I think scooping a big pot in the early levels should be significant as well as being penalized for a late start.
Sadly, many limit MTTs don't really think about that ever (ie: Golden Nugget limit MTTs).

Overall, I think it's good they lowered the buyins on the bigger events to get more runners. Hopefully, they'll add more non-NLHE (ie: maybe 3k "big o" 6-max and a 5k plo8) instead of taking away non-NLHE events (like 2.5k PLHE/PLO).

Tbh, don't think lowering the $5k to a $3k makes much of a differnce. For 99% of players, the $2k difference in buy in doesn't change their mind, whether they're playing or not.

The only real reason for a big change in field size is whether there is some sort of NL donkament or another mixed game event planned for the same day.

I actually disagree here. I think the 3k will see a good increase in traffic. I would probably play if I am there but I am unlikely to play a 5k. I wouldn't be surprised to see a 10-15% increase in last years 5k field.

I do think going from the 10k to the 5k in the LO8 will not have as much of an impact though I assume it will allow for some growth.

To lower the buy in 40% and expect a 10-15% increase makes no buisness sense.

Last years 5K PLO8 grew over 20% from the previous year.
