Hi mddgfc.

Congratulations on your success so far and hope it continues for you.

As someone completely new to PLO8 mtt's and sng's, what would you say is the most important concept for new players to grasp?

Biggest mistake you see regulars/new players making?

Why PLO8 over other games?

Did you have a moment where everything just *clicked* for you?

Hey mark, do you come over to London in the summer to play the EPT sides events and maybe the WSOPE, or do you plan to come play this year?

Hi auc

Thanks, id say the most important concept is just to understand the basic hand values. If your completely new id recommend being a complete rock and playing small sng's both limit and pot limit just to get a feel for the game.

The biggest mistake i see regs making is imo they fold a little too much pre flop when they have money in the pot, although thats not to say you should be getting tied to all hands all the time!

The biggest mistake new players make is that they play for half the pot far too often when they have no chance of scooping!

I originally choose plo8 as it seemed a little more complex than nlhe and i felt that people were just playing horribly in most games, thats changed a lot though at least in the higher games.

The moment that it just clicked was when id won about $12k in an mtt one night, the game lasted ages and then i had to go to work after sleeping for about 2hours and work for about $80 lol....so I just thought id need to be mad to keep doing this and thats when i quit work and started grinding every day for a living.....good questions !

mddgfc,

Good well. Congrats on all the success.

Guinness, cold or room temperature?

You black out and wake up a week later in Vegas having won the main event. Would you continue to play poker?

HU strategy: In position you flop the nut low draw + nut flush draw. When checked to you bet the flop. Board pairs on turn. Checked to again. What is your line? If you bet again what is your line if he check raises?

You mentioned you'd rather go on vacation than buy a new car (I am in the same boat). Coolest place you've visited and coolest place you have yet to visit?

Richard

Hi Grim
Id planned to play the side event this year and possibly the main event but my girlfriend very kindly booked a weekend away for us all to take the kids to legoland at the same time!

Ill hopefully get over this year, i chopped a side event at the galway ukipt and cashed the last winter festival i played so i tend to do pretty well when i can be bothered playing! Im aiming to play the ukipt in killarney in june but its more a question of motivation than anything else with live poker and me

Hi Richard
Ty, im not a beer drinker at all and have taken a lot of stick probally most of it deserved for drinking "womens drinks" like alcopops and cocktails lol.

Hell yes id continue to play the only differnce is id be playing a lot lot higher and id probally blow the majority of it on sports bets....unfortunately!

As long as the player is not a massive calling station im always firing at the turn again, unless i think he is capable of check raising me with air.....if i bet and he check raises the majority of the time im done with it unless the guy is generally awful and very aggro.

Best place ive visited is vegas, probally the same for most players, I just love the buzz and atmoshphere about the place and the fact that the hotel rooms are great for a very small price, I used to love ibiza and not just for the clubs but i just found it a really chilled out and relaxing place.
Strangely enough im not a massive fan of the heat so ive nowhere that i really really want to get to, maybe the pca if they move the dates a month or two, or another city in the usa like san fran or boston.
I think the moon might be a fun trip too but im not sure if id get a wireless connection up there

Hey mark, thanks for doing the well. Can you elaborate on this? Are you talking mainly SNGs and MTTs? Or cash games also?

You coming to Vegas for the Series in June?

Are realistic, long term SNG ROIs at the 38s and up shrinking?

Bit of an Irish history buff:

Do you consider yourself English or Irish?

Is all of the IRA/Republican stuff dead just for now or forever?

Im talking mainly sngs as the limit one dont really run above $20 or $30 so you cant get enough volume in to make any decent $$...the limit mtts are very very soft but they dont get many players usually and apart from the 215 on stars the buy ins are quite small.

I dont think the plo8 cash games offer great value at the minute and if i had to play cash id probally play the limit games but im in no rush to get involved there either lol

Id love to come out in and ive set myself a target of 30k profit from scoop so if that happens ill come out for a week, my main problem is im off to vegas in april and again in sept for holidays and to squeeze another week in might be seen as taking the biscut lol

The sngs are getting so much harder even month by month imo and they are chocked full of regs now

Im neither english or irish, im from northern ireland so im northern irish or british although it makes little difference to me and it doesnt bother me in the least if someone thinks im irish etc.

Hopefully the worst of the troubles are now over although there will always be divides throughout the country at least for the main time it appears to have quietened down. The main time for trouble is july when things can get a little crazy

Interesting question i hope the answers prove informative

bwslim, I am also from Belfast and was in the military and Police for 7 years.

The IRA is officially over but there are many other groups which contain a few seasoned IRA members and a lot of young blood who are still trying to over-through the peace process. Im not sure how much news makes it from NI to the USA but a matter of months ago a version of the IRA tried to kill a policeman and also killed 2 british soldiers, plus another policeman. The UDA/UVF/UFF are basically finished with terrorism but continue their crime racquets and drug dealing and internal feuds. The threat level in NI is currently at the highest level.

Sorry to hijack mark

Lmao ty its good that someone actually agreeds! Lately ive felt like a big big crying baby compaining about this and that all the time but it really starts to grind you down when you consistently get in so so so far ahead only to see them hit there 9of hearts or j or spades etc....and its been going on since xmas lol...still if we cant laugh we would cry right?

so todays plan of action is to go on a bus run to watch a soccer game and have an all day drinking binge, then maybe grind a little tomorrow when my head will be to sore to care what happens to me lol

I think it means sort of the same thing as "take the cake."

And that idiom can mean different things, depending on how it's used. It can mean "outrageous" or it can mean "astounding" or it can mean "win."

Sorry for the intrusion, Mark. Great well thus far. Very interesting. Thanks again for doing it.
