But the rule that requires players, dealers and floor people to point out errors? Is that a rule or an editorial comment?

I read it as a rule.

Play the game with honor or take up bowling.

1. The player who misreads his hand has no one to blame but himself. Okay maybe a small wtf to the dealer. But mostly himself.

2. The player who sees a pot going the wrong way after cards are tabled and doesn't say anything is a jerk.

These are not contradictions.

Right on. Just like the dealer shouldn't muck your unprotected hand without being sure you've folded, but you still have no one else to blame for failing to PYH. Just like cards speak, but you shouldn't let go of the winning hand until the pot's pushed. Etc. etc.
