Hi RioGossiper – As moderator, I don't like threads like this one where posters discuss other players. The reason is there is a high risk of the thread degenerating into trash talking and trading insults. While that might be fun for some and amusing for others, I feel it has a negative effect on strategy posts.

But while I don’t like threads of this nature, (1) some of the posts in this thread seem cathartic, (2) some very fine posters have responded, (3) obviously feeling differently than I do, and (4) I have a lot of respect for some of these posters.

It’s not clear to me what your own intent is in posting in this thread. I wonder if you are complaining about this thread, or simply trying to insult posters.

In case your intent is to complain about this thread or a post in this thread, let me tell you how to do that.

• To the left near the bottom of each post there are some little symbols. One of the symbols is a small triangle. With the shell I am using, on my monitor screen it’s a red-bordered white triangle with the letter I inside it. But it may be a different color on your screen.
  
  At any rate, to complain about a post or thread, you click on that “Report Post” triangle and then write a few words in the space provided. Then you click the “Send Report” button at the bottom of the space provided for you to verbalize your complaint.
  
  An e-mail message will be immediately sent to all the moderators of this forum, notifying us of the complaint.
  
  Probably at least within hours, and maybe within minutes, one of us will respond to your complaint. If another moderator has not already dealt with your complaint, I’ll read the post about which you complained and either take immediate action or write a private message to you asking you what the problem is and/or what you want me to do about it.

But nobody has complained about this thread by clicking the “Report Post” triangle, listing a complaint, and clicking on the “Send Report” button.

Even though I don’t like threads of this nature, since nobody has complained, and since I can’t see anything specifically wrong, I’m inclined to neither lock, censure, nor delete this thread.

To me, it seems like your own post is the most offensive post in this thread, since you have insulted other posters of this forum. In case it’s not clear to you, “You guys wanking yourselves over how to grow the game” is insulting trash talk.

I hope this simple warning suffices and no other action on my part will be warranted.

Calling out fish is a really poor idea. I can think of a few people that have quit online, or live poker games from seeing gossip like those found in this thread. I don't care to mention the cases I know specifically any, but I can point out one great example of cutting your nose to spite your face...Andy Beal.

How they treated him was disgraceful, and he won't be back to give the 'corporation' his business.

i agree it's a poor idea to call out the fish.. but that isn't usually what happens in these threads.. as they are about "regulars" there aren't too many fish regulars in pl 8 because they get broke.

I read these forums about once a week, and I've grown tired of certain people and their behaviour not really so much here, but in the games themselves. Notice I didn't attack anyone specifically this time. As someone who has serious interest in the health of plo8, I don't want certain people going on and on with such topics.

The ego maniacs who really shouldn't have an ego disturb me, and in truth I wish them a painful end, however this is just common sense not to continue such threads.

You obviously are going to allow such threads so there is no point in reporting them. I am simply stating my views on the matter.

Ego wanking is fine, however cutting down others is not. Was this not your original logic? I was never too divergent from your views there despite some attack (certainly deserving) against others.

Poker players are dumb. Even notional winning players can be thick as bricks. Just look at how often they lobby for stakes that will cripple their pool of players (ahem.)

I remember the "great" Danny N once writing that a player he knew was a winning player based on how he played his hands, it was just that he went on tilt and played in games he couldn't beat

The people you have quoted as your example are rather bad examples. First you use Andy Beal (wow you read the book, who hasnt) and the fact that you are trying to compare random fish from Europe who randomly play and sink their money.
2nd- your example above is from a 2k game, do you think that people playing 2k care about a poker forum about whether they are good or not? I can't believe how often I'm told that I suck at the tables, but it doesn't change anything.
3rd- Listen to what your quote was above, the guy doesn't talk about being insulted or anything like that, he just feels that there is not enough action in o8 relative to plo (isnt this rather obvious). The guy doesn't like the fact that the people are so nitty.
4th- I will not challenge you to rolls or whatever because I don't know who you are and dont really wish to be so petty. You make some good points about how you dont like these threads and think they are bad for the game, but then you go on to make personal attacks against people which basically destroys any possible good that your comments could make.
5th- No matter how many examples you can possibly have of people not liking online o8 players, I bet that the sample size is so insignificant it would not make or break the game. Will it hurt it...maybe, I don't know. But to say that this thread will kill the game or hurt it significantly cannot be said as I cannot say that one thread or something like that will help the game significantly.
6th- This is a forum. Although there are rules and regulations, this is a place for people to talk poker and stuff retaining to poker. There is no cost and nothing that states that you must read it. The great thing about this forum is that they have subject lines so that if you dont think you will like the content of the thread, you can ignore it. Throughout this whole thread, there have been minimal attacks on any people. The only real attacks have been on Idiot29 and rackeback27 and the back and forth with the people who insulted them. However, I think that if you talk to either of them, what people say on this forum will not make them quit the game and will be their decision alone.
7th- While I agree that some people are annoying and jerks and hurt the game, this happens in all games. I think that you are overestimating the power of a thread or a forum. I do not go through and search other forums for possible insults about myself and I don't know who would google themselves just to see what people are saying about them. And if they did, why would they care what some people on a forum say about them. Usually, its just 1 or 2 people saying someone is bad and someone else agreeing.
8th- While I don't think these threads have particularly great merit because they almost always degenerate into a pissing contest, there are much better ways to go about it.
Overall, I think that you should really just think before you type out responses, especially since you rarely post here so as to not polarize everyone against you and destroy anything you are trying to accomplish.
